Step-by-Step Shadowing Guide for This Video

The shadowing technique is a fantastic way to practice speaking, and this video is ideal for it! Here’s how to do it:

  1. Listen once: Focus on the story flow. Notice how Richie pauses and emphasizes words like "embarrassing" and "damaged."
  2. Repeat short chunks: Pause after 3-5 seconds and repeat. Copy his rhythm—he speaks quickly but clearly, so aim for that pace.
  3. Focus on pronunciation: Words like "Costa Rica" (koh-stuh REE-kuh) and "hula hoop" (HOO-luh hoop) have specific sounds. Mimic his stress on the first syllable of "embarrassing."
  4. Act it out: Add emotion! Richie sounds amused, so let your voice reflect that. This helps with intonation and fluency.
