Creazione lezione...
1
June 9th, 1954.
2
How many of you remember that day?
3
Yeah. Right.
4
Well, I do.
5
I was in elementary school and we had one of the first  televisions in the neighborhood which would have been great if it  was tuned in to The Lone Ranger.
6
But my old man, my old man wanted to watch this boring show called the “Army- McCarthy Hearings.” Buncha guys sitting around  talking into microphones.
7
If you’ve never heard of Joe McCarthy, look him up on the... whatever.
8
He was a United States Senator  and he was a real peach.
9
He’d lie, he’d bully, he’d destroy reputations.
10
He would hurt people without a thought.
11
And everybody was afraid of him.
12
Because he was “rooting out communism.” And lemme tell you: in America in the nineteen fifties, you did not want to be called a communist.
13
My old man?
14
My old man hated commies.
15
Hated ‘em till the day he died.
16
Fought ‘em in Korea.
17
Believe me when I tell you he had zero use for that particular philosophy.
18
And yet there we were, June 9, 1954 and on the television a man named Joseph Welch stands  up to this bully, McCarthy.
19
And Welch says “Have you no sense of decency, Sir?
20
At long last, have you left no sense of decency?” And my Pop, my commie-hating  Pop, mutters to himself: “About damn time.” Now, I’m confused.
21
I say “Pop, I thought you and  McCarthy were on the same side!” And my father looks at me and he says: “There is right versus left, and there is right versus wrong." Yeah.
