1
so ever since i started renting this studio i can't help
2
but wonder how i'm going to remember this crazy part of my life
3
and this isn't my first studio either the last one played such a pivotal part in my growth as a creative.
4
And I think about those days all the time.
5
They were the good old days.
6
And that felt like it was yesterday.
7
So it makes me wonder, am I in the good old days right now?
8
Now, this might sound really weird, so just bear with me,
9
but I fantasize the day when my grandkids are going through a box of my old stuff.
10
And when they open that box, they can live my good old days because it's documented.
11
it.
12
Moments, time, ideas, all these things are so fleeting and that's all we're left with once the moment is gone.
13
We're left with the documentation of it and the memory.
14
So a couple of years ago,
15
I picked up the camera again and that's when I swore the oath that I I would document my life. For me.
16
You smiled so lovely.
17
Oh, really?
18
You have to be on the back of the bed.
19
I don't know if there's a problem.
20
I want to have experiences and memories documented to look back on and cringe.
21
That view is incomprehensible.
22
It just doesn't even look real.
23
It's not real.
24
Maybe I'm not real. Is life real?
25
I think I'm in a dream.
26
for me, but also for my grandkids.
27
And this whole process has evolved and I have four different ways of documenting my life.
28
And the fourth is the best one.
29
It's the secret sauce.
30
Okay, let's start with...
31
But this camera you're watching it on is a hefty investment.
32
It's like five grand.
33
So just taking photos and videos on your phone is a great place to start documenting your life intentionally.
34
Everyone's doing the same thing.
35
Don't just do the same old, same old.
36
Find new settings, find cool lighting, find interesting compositions.
37
I will say that if you put that much money into a camera,
38
you're bound to use it and you're also bound to get a good quality image.
39
All the technical stuff like this.
40
I didn't know any of that stuff.
41
I just learned it.
42
The only reason I picked up that camera again was to document my life
43
so that I could look back one day and I don't know, maybe make a video about it.
44
Maybe just look at it, but also incorporating old cameras, new cameras, and things like action cameras.
45
This gives you like a different range of feelings and emotions you can carry when you document your life.
46
People tend to skip this part when they are documenting their life and that is the appropriate storage system.
47
So these are hard drives of all of my footage and first of all I don't recommend doing this.
48
If I lose any of these I lose all of these clips for good and that haunts me in my dream.
49
Just having one of these to sort and organize your clips.
50
I usually work project by project.
51
So I save all of the clips to a required project.
52
And then there's folders in folders in folders to organize.
53
I kid you not, I literally just bought a new hard drive and this thing corrupted.
54
This has never happened to me.
55
I think I just jinxed myself.
56
incredibly bad.
57
I am so excited.
58
If you have seen my last video, I lost my hat.
59
It almost felt like I lost a child or, you know, what that might feel like.
60
And I was devastated.
61
I mean, I love that hat and it had so many memories.
62
I ran a goddamn ultra marathon in that hat.
63
They discontinued my hat.
64
We're back.
65
Thank you, Hills Hats, for sending me out the freebie.
66
I love your product.
67
I just want to say hi to my grandkids.
68
And yes, I was dressing like a grandpa in my 20s, dude.
69
Like, what's your problem?
70
Hey, you got a goddamn problem with me?
71
I've been journaling for basically my entire life just in different types of formats you can see that I have
72
Dom's mega scrapbook full of awesome stuff and uh I don't know
73
when this was Mario Luigi and Yoshi
74
but then I transitioned on to let's just say stoner scrapbooking holy moly
75
but now I've decided I only need two books ever for the rest of my life
76
I like it the way I move.
77
I like it the way I move.
78
I like it the way I move.
79
I like it the way I do.
80
I like it.
81
Journaling is a big part of my daily routine, how I document my life and how I document my channel.
82
This two book system has been a refinement of years
83
and years of using different notebooks
84
and this is the best way I have found to document my life for my creativity
85
and my grandkids later on in the future.
86
So this book is strictly for chaos ideas, throwing it around, and it is quite a robust design due to the leather.
87
By the way, these are both my products and I am not in any
88
Anyway, making you buy these, I'm just showing why they fit so nicely into my daily routine.
89
This book is basically where all of the juice gets squeezed.
90
Having keepsakes and collages that work alongside the journal entries makes the book come alive in my opinion.
91
So how I do this is actually really simple.
92
I just go throughout my week collecting anything 2D out of magazines, books, you cut and you paster me.
93
For the written journal entries, I like to use a date stamp.
94
That'll go on the left side of the page.
95
Then you write the exact time and your location on the right side of the page.
96
From there, I just freestyle, you know, what I'm feeling, what I'm excited about.
97
And this actually gives me a lot to talk about inside my videos because it's what I'm thinking about.
98
You know, you're documenting your life well when your book doesn't even close properly anymore.
99
Lastly, a monthly habit tracking spread.
100
By the way, this takes 10 minutes every single day, less.
101
If you're just tracking your habits, it's like two minutes.
102
If you're journaling as well, it's max 10, 15 minutes.
103
So I do this month by month every single day, or at least I try to.
104
I do miss days and then I have to go back in, fill them out.
105
But this has been really, really nice to look back on as a piece of documentation.
106
Probably one of the most satisfying things out there.
107
So you might be watching this thinking it's pretty complex, but actually it's very simple.
108
There's two months here from September to October.
109
And in between, this is all the days of September.
110
That's how I divide my months.
111
Once you wrap your head around it, it becomes super simple.
112
On the spread, it does look complex.
113
Please don't be intimidated.
114
it's a really fun way of documenting your life.
115
Okay, so far video, photo, journaling, hat collection.
116
But something that I document yearly is a letter to myself.
117
Don't open until you're actually mature.
118
I'd say I'm pretty mature.
119
There's actually a story behind this one.
120
I was made to do this in year nine by my teachers.
121
They gave us like the most boring school prompts you could think of.
122
Like what subjects will you be interested in 12 months time?
123
Like no one cares about that stuff.
124
So I wrote myself a personal letter.
125
Look, mate, you're probably like 21 or something.
126
I don't know, but I'm sure you're cringing at this already.
127
My teacher wants us to speak about this camp in this letter, but I'm like...
128
that lol and I kid you not I wrote down a team
129
and a player for the AFL
130
which is like the big sport of Australia from inside the center square boys kick the goal
131
it would probably be the same as NFL the winner of
132
that year's grand final and I also wrote down the brown low medalist which is like the MVP.
133
I literally on the nose guessed them and since that day I've written a letter to myself every year since.
134
If you're completely stuck on what to put inside this letter I'm going to share a list of prompts
135
that I use when I am writing my letter to myself.
136
So you want to start your letter with the date, time and where you are.
137
I want you to then describe where you are through the smell, sounds, what you can see.
138
Then talk about how you feel and what's on your mind.
139
Where do you see yourself in 12 months?
140
What's your scariest goal?
141
What are you avoiding?
142
What's your biggest fear?
143
What are three wishes that you would want granted?
144
And then if you want, you can put in your sports team and predict the winners.
145
Good luck making your letter to yourself.
146
Okay, but now it's time for the absolute secret sauce.
147
So this is my wall of achievements.
148
Each of these photo frames tells a different story about a different chapter of my life.
149
I think this is one of my favorite ways of documenting.
150
There's a few things on this wall that have already been touched on in this video,
151
which is funny, you might be able to spot them painting of the sanctuary by my girlfriend Ella.
152
We have the letter of resignation from when I ran an ultra marathon in my hat.
153
And up the top there, I did a three week yoga retreat.
154
So I'm a certified yoga teacher.
155
The more you know about me.
156
Now, if I was to pick my favorite achievement of all time, it would have to be my pen license.
157
For me to still have this and have it framed in like the most outstanding gold frame of all time.
158
I think this just takes the cake as my favorite.
159
But guys, there's a spot right here that would be perfect for a plaque of some kind.
160
If you could just press the subscribe button to help me get there, that would be much appreciated.
161
Hungry, never be hung up,
162
hung up like my enemy I used to be, oh, oh, oh
