1
It's a muscle.
2
The mind is a muscle.
3
Emotion is a muscle.
4
I mean, I think the most powerful muscles are the invisible force muscles.
5
muscles.
6
It's your spiritual emotional muscle.
7
So I put my ass on the line regularly so that it grows and when it keeps growing, then pretty soon the stuff that used to make me crazy, it doesn't touch me.
8
It's not that I'm so great, it's just I'm well trained.
9
I'm trained mind.
10
For my homes I have these cold plunges and they're 56 degrees and the first thing I do is jump in that cold plunger.
11
So there's not a fucking morning where I want to jump in that.
12
I can't remember morning and I'm like, I can't wait to jump in that thing.
13
But I don't negotiate with myself.
14
I do it for two reasons.
15
One, there's a physical health component.
16
It moves your lymph system and the blood flushes through your whole body.
17
The main reason I do it even more than that.
18
For decades I go, I say, we do.
19
I'm not here to discuss this shit with my mind.
20
There's mind and then there's soul and spirit.
21
And soul and spirit, my soul fucking knows.
22
And when I say jump, you fucking jump.
23
Does that happen with my water every day?
24
Yes, because I've conditioned it.
25
Does it happen every year in my life?
26
No.
27
And When I find it's not working and I step back up and condition it.
28
And unless I'm willing to take 100% responsibility for what I feel and what I experience, then I'm always going to be a victim to someone.
29
Life is too short to suffer.
30
The most important decision of your life is is deciding whether you're truly committed to being happy no matter what.
31
Because life is going to throw all kinds of curveballs at all of us.
32
There's the one thing that's in common in this lifetime is extreme stress.
33
All your entire life you live in one of two states.
34
States of suffering or beautiful states of being.
35
which is I got a 90 second rule.
36
What I decided is within 90 seconds I'd kill it.
37
All you have to do is stop expecting and start appreciating.
38
You look around and appreciate things outside yourself, the people around you, the friends sitting across you, anything of that nature.
39
And then starting to enjoy something.
40
If you start to learn or grow from that, if you love, which to me is an action, if you love, if you give, If you're grateful, suffering disappears instantly.
41
When you get that all suffering is obsession with self, you can snap out of it.
42
But you have to tell yourself the truth.
43
The only suffering is in your mind, it's because this brain is not designed to make you happy.
44
It's two million years old, it's designed to make you survive.
45
Happiness is your job, and happiness is a decision, and it's a daily set of practices.
46
whatever's coming up, I go, this is the mind.
47
I breathe in my heart.
48
I find something I can appreciate.
49
I become entertained by the experience and go, you know what?
50
I'm going to live in a beautiful state no matter what, because not everything can I control.
51
And the things I'm most upset about, they're fleeting anyway, most of them.
52
And my prayer, my simple prayer, before I walk out on every stage is, use me.
53
Use me, Lord.
54
And I know that sounds silly to some people, but it's really true.
55
I'm not an ultra-religious person, but I'm extremely spiritual, and I believe the force of life comes through me, it comes through you, it comes through all of us.
56
And the only thing that gets in the way is all the beliefs we have about how it's supposed to be, all the expectations we have.
57
And I have them too.
58
But I keep leading them out.
59
When something happens like this happens, I go, oh, we're the opponent.
60
Because in every story of a person's life, they have what they want and desire, and then they have these needs that they're unaware of.
61
You know, character things that need to be developed.
62
And how do those get developed?
63
Well, if what you wanted, you just took action, it happened.
64
A, you'd be bored.
65
B, you'd never develop spiritually or your character.
66
And so, what happens is opponents show up.
67
And the opponent can be you with yourself.
68
The opponent can be somebody close to you that feels like an opponent, it can be an external force.
69
But if you do battle with this, eventually you battle it with yourself.
70
I've done battle for 58 years and I'm gonna keep doing battle for the rest of my life, but I'm doing better because I've done battle so often.
71
It's like, why is LeBron James who he is?
72
It's not because he's lucky.
73
You know, I would say, you know, he's lucky.
74
Shit, he may have certain physical patterns.
75
Or Michael Jordan, remember I interviewed him years ago.
76
And I said, what makes you the best in the world?
77
Is it skill?
78
Is it talent?
79
Is it abilities?
80
Is it background?
81
Is it training?
82
He said, I didn't even make the high school basketball team my sophomore year.
83
I was cut.
84
He said, what it is, is every day I demand more from myself than anybody else could possibly expect.
85
I don't compete with other people, I compete with what I'm capable of.
86
It's a muscle.
87
The mind is a muscle.
88
We're all born with muscle, but if it's developed, you trained it.
89
And that means you had to find something that you valued more than your pain.
90
You had to get beyond your pain or you got to use your pain and say, I'm going to use it to become more.
91
That's what my life's been about.
92
Life is always happening for us, not to us.
93
Thank you.
