If you're taking the CELPIP exam,

you're going to see a question like this on the exam.

What do you think will happen next?

Well, in this lesson, I'm going to teach you how you should answer this question.

Now, I'm making a lot of videos on CELPIP, listening, speaking, reading, writing.

Okay, so this is task 4 on the speaking part of the test.

And task 4 is all about making predictions.

What's going to happen?

Now actually, you're going to see the same picture that you saw in task 3,

which is describing a scene.

okay so in task three you're going to see a picture

and you have to describe it then in task four you have to predict what's going to happen okay

but it's the same picture so

when you're doing task three you can already be thinking about what's going to happen in task four okay

so in task three you're describing the picture you can say this is a picture of a fish

and a fish hook And then in task 4,

you're going to say, I think the fish will...

And you're going to make a prediction.

Now, take a look at this.

In task 2, you're talking about a past experience.

So you're going to use past tense verbs.

In task 3, you're describing a picture.

So you're going to use present tense verbs.

In task 4, you're making predictions.

so you're going to use future tense verbs.

This is very important.

This isn't just random.

They chose these tasks to test you on your verb tenses.

So you really need to pay attention to the verb tenses.

In this one, you're just using past tenses.

Two years ago, I went on a trip with my friend.

And here you're saying this picture is of a parrot sitting in a tree.

On the left side of the picture there is a boy.

On the right side of the picture there is...

So you're just using present verbs, right?

In this one you're going to be using future tense verbs, right?

Now this is how we make predictions in English.

we use words like this.

I think or I'm pretty sure or I'm not entirely sure

but I think or I think what will probably happen is or what's going to happen next is.

Okay, so we use these phrases when we're making predictions.

Now, you're going to say I think or something similar to that.

Then you're going to use a future tense verb.

Okay, so look at this picture.

We have a cat and a mouse.

So what do you think is going to happen?

Well, you could say, I think the cat will.

Then, I think the mouse is going to,

remember, is going to and will mean the same thing.

They're both future tense verbs.

Okay, so I want you to look at this picture,

okay and and and think about what you would say now remember you have to speak for 60 seconds

60 seconds that's a long time okay this is a very simple picture um there's a cat

and a mouse so

if you say i think the cat will eat the mouse that's only five seconds you need to speak for 60 seconds.

So you need to think about a series of events.

You need to tell a story, something creative.

Just make something up.

It's your choice.

Okay, so make a series of events.

Now, when you see the question,

you have 30 seconds to prepare something,

to think about what's going to happen.

So you can take some notes.

So maybe write down two or three things,

just words, that you think that will help you remember what you want to talk about.

Okay, 30 seconds is not a very long time,

so you just have to write down a few words.

For example, you You could say,

um, cat tries to catch mouse, but fails.

Then, uh, cat chases mouse around the house, or something like that.

Just any story, anything that you think is going to happen,

you need to use future tense verbs,

and you need to tell a series of events that will take 60 seconds.

Because if you only speak for 5 or 10 seconds,

you're going to get really bad marks.

Okay, so I want you to pause this video right now and take some notes for 30 seconds on this picture.

And then after 30 seconds I want you to try to speak for one minute.
