1
The weather is one of the most powerful, important forces on Earth.
2
But how do you know what the weather is going to be like so you can plan ahead?
3
A lot can go wrong if you don't plan for the weather.
4
While you're busy with your everyday life,
5
a global network of gadgets scan and measure the atmosphere,
6
collecting data from all over the world.
7
Radar systems, weather balloons, ocean monitoring buoys and lots of other cool instruments track changes to help predict the weather.
8
Another vital ingredient is space.
9
Way out in orbit, weather satellites are getting the big picture of atmospheric changes.
10
These European weather satellites, METOP and MeteorSat,
11
give us the ability to see the weather before it reaches us.
12
Orbiting the Earth 14 times a day,
13
around 850 kilometres up, METOP keeps a close eye on temperature, humidity and winds.
14
METOP's observations along with all the other data are fed into powerful supercomputers.
15
These huge machines then crunch their way through millions of bits of data about current weather,
16
oceans and atmosphere to forecast future weather.
17
The process is called numerical weather prediction and is what scientists use to help us plan our lives.
18
It's clever stuff.
19
Individuals in entire countries can react when bad weather is on the way.
20
Governments, pilots, farmers, fishermen and sailors,
21
shop owners, tourists, building workers and even power stations all rely on accurate weather forecasts.
22
Further out in space, at 36,000 kilometres,
23
MeteorSat stays over the same spot on Earth,
24
keeping a 24-hour watch over Europe and Africa's weather.
25
This type of satellite is essential for detecting the development of rapidly changing weather,
26
such as storms or fog,
27
helping meteorologists work out what is likely to happen in the next few hours.
28
So many lives are affected in huge ways by the weather and our ability to predict and plan for it,
29
and everyone's life is affected in little ways every day.
30
Weather forecasts enable us to plan to keep traffic moving,
31
planes on schedule and on the safest path.
32
And everyone's day, well, not always without a hitch.
33
So remember that a whole host of satellites and other amazing weather technology are always at your fingertips whenever you have plans.
34
So don't forget to check the weather.

Dikkat edilecek telaffuzlar

Konuşmacı don't, you're gibi kısaltılmış biçimleri 3 kez kullanıyor. Bunları duyduğunuz gibi kısa söyleyin.

  • “sh” ve “zh” sesleri: fisherman /ˈfɪʃ.ɚ.mən/, prediction /pɹɪˈdɪkʃən/
  • Uzun kelimeler — vurguyu doğru yere koyun: kilometre /kɪˈlɑmɪtəɹ/, meteorologist /ˌmiːti.əˈɹɒ.lə.dʒɪst/, numerical /n(j)uːˈmɛɹ.ɪ.kəl/, ingredient /ɪnˈɡɹiːdi.ənt/, humidity /hjuːˈmɪd.ə.ti/

Türkçe konuşanların zorlandığı sesler:

  • Kelime başındaki ünsüz kümesi — araya ünlü eklemeyin: predict /pɹɪˈdɪkt/, numerical /n(j)uːˈmɛɹ.ɪ.kəl/, crunch /kɹʌnt͡ʃ/, humidity /hjuːˈmɪd.ə.ti/, prediction /pɹɪˈdɪkʃən/
  • /æ/ — “e”den daha açık: gadget /ɡæd͡ʒ.ɪt/, atmospheric /ˌætməsˈfɛɹɪk/, scan /skæn/

Bu videoyla nasıl çalışılır

  1. Videonun tamamını konuşmadan bir kez dinleyin ve bilmediğiniz kelimeleri not edin.
