Shadowing Practice: Transparency – Allowing Light to Pass Through - Learn English Speaking with Video

Creando lección...
1
Every day we use and see objects made from various materials like metal, wood, glass, plastic, fabric and rubber.
2
It's important to know what these materials can do, especially if you're making something.
3
You need to pick the right material so that your object works the way it should and is safe to use.
4
One key thing to understand is how a material interacts with light.
5
This is called transparency.
6
Some materials let lots of light through, some let only a little through, and some don't let any through at all.
7
Take a look at this glass bowl.
8
You can see right through it.
9
That's because glass is a transparent material.
10
It lets almost all the light pass through, which is why you can see the salad inside the bowl so clearly.
11
Now, see those plastic bags holding apples?
12
You can kind of see inside, but not perfectly.
13
The bags are translucent, meaning they let some light through, but not all.
14
And lastly, look at the metal mixing bowl.
15
You can't see inside it at all, can you?
16
That's because it's an opaque material.
17
Opaque materials don't let any light through.
18
Understanding transparency can help you know why some objects work better than others for certain jobs.
19
So next time you pick something up, think about what it's made of and how that affects what it can do.
