Hello, welcome back to English with Eleanor.
2
Today I'm going in the kitchen
3
and I'm going to show you how we make a proper cup of tea here in Ireland.
4
So tea drinking is very much part of our culture in Ireland
5
and the UK and it's always something that is not the same for us when we go to other countries.
6
So if we take a holiday to Spain or France, anywhere other than the UK or Ireland,
7
the tea is not the same because people in other countries do not drink tea in the same way as we do.
8
So there are two ways.
9
I'm going to show you the official way and the lazy way.
10
So the lazy way
11
which is what i use most of the time is i
12
just put a tea bag in a cup with some boiling water put some milk
13
and done but when i was growing up there was a proper way to make tea
14
and that was using a teapot so you can see here i have this teapot
15
and i have it on the hob the teapot is warm
16
and it is dry
17
so we put the tea bag into the teapot we add freshly boiled water from the kettle
18
and we let it sit for a few minutes depending on how strong you want your tea to be
19
so when I was growing up we always kept the teapot on a very low heat to keep it warm
20
but we do not want the water to be boiling,
21
you just want the pot to be warm so that your tea is nice and hot when you pour it eventually.
22
So I'm going to put the tea bag into the dry warm
23
and I'm going to add some boiling water and it should spit like that.
24
Just one tea bag, one cup of tea
25
so I'm just putting a small amount of water
26
and we're going to close the lid and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
27
So when we are making this sort of tea we're always going to use black tea
28
so there is a trend at the moment for herbal teas they're becoming more popular.
29
I love herbal tea myself but
30
when we have proper Irish tea it's going to be black tea and we drink it with milk.
31
So in other countries, I think people tend to drink black tea with honey or lemon, but often they don't add milk.
32
I remember going to, might have been North America, and they were making tea,
33
black tea, but they didn't add milk to it.
34
So it seemed a bit strange for me.
35
It's not exactly the same so for us
36
when we have a cup of tea we're usually going to add some kind of milk
37
and we're usually going to have something with it a biscuit
38
a tray bake something like a little sweet snack to have with our tea even better
39
if you can dunk it in the tea that's that's the best experience I'm going to turn it off
40
because it's warm enough at this point
41
there's lots of different types of tea
42
that we can use here in terms of black tea
43
so this is Barry's shout out to Barry's
44
but we also have like Pungiana and Barry and different types of tea
45
that you can use for this
46
so I like it I like a good drop of milk in my tea and then And then we're going to pour.
47
Oh, it's perfect.
48
Look at the colour of that.
49
And this is what it should look like.
50
So now I have my perfect cup of tea.
51
All I need is a biscuit to go with it.
52
Do you drink tea in your country?
53
If you do, what type of tea do you drink?
54
have you tried tea in this way I'm curious let me know don't forget
