Hey guys, welcome back to my channel
2
and today I want to just briefly talk about how to teach drawing to kids, specifically drawing.
3
And I have another video that I will link down in the description below
4
that is how to teach art to kids and that's art specifically in broad spectrum.
5
whereas today I want to talk about specifically drawing for ages like 7 through 10 this age bracket
6
and I want to I want to emphasize
7
that giving them the drawing tools and tricks and skills like
8
that are really gonna set them up well for the future
9
and being able to express themselves more
10
so at this age they definitely want to copy things
11
and they want to make things look right
12
or look like the picture they're drawing or the animal they're trying to to create.
13
I've found that the best tips and tricks for this are a step-by-step drawing process.
14
So giving them a grid, starting with a grid, teaching them how to divide their paper into half, both directions or thirds, whatever you need for the specific subject you're drawing,
15
and then breaking things down into basic shapes.
16
And then once you've done the drawing process literally piece by piece with them, teaching them how to use a grid teaching them how to
17
see basic shapes then you give them the freedom to color
18
it texture it add materials whatever they want to to it
19
so you're still incorporating a level of play and a level of experimentation
20
but you're giving them those valuable skills of learning to look at something and draw it.
21
Copy what I do and draw it.
22
Watch your spacing, you know, copy the spacing that I'm doing and put it on your paper.
23
Those types of skills are just so, so important for bringing your child to the next level.
24
I have had students that after the step-by-step drawing process, they will remember the steps.
25
And actually, I've had students go home and draw that over
26
and over and over again I actually had a student do we did a step-by-step toucan drawing
27
and she just loved it and she went home
28
and she drew like 20 toucans of all different sizes
29
and all different colors and I was so proud of her
30
because she now has that skill yes it's very structured
31
because it was like only the one direction of the toucan for every picture
32
but she had the skills and then she had the confidence to create that same toucan we did in class
33
at home by herself because I gave her those tools of using a grid, using basic shapes, and then she had that confidence to do it on her own
34
and then to color them and have fun with bringing them to life the way she wanted to.
35
This whole process, grid, basic shapes, drawing step by step, is great for a variety of ages.
36
It works great with adults.
37
I mean, we do step-by-step painting processes,
38
you know, that just really help the student understand the order of operations,
39
so to speak, of creating a painting or creating a piece of art.
40
And so it works with pretty much everybody, but, and obviously the outcome is going to be different, right?
41
The end result of the painting or the picture is going to be slightly different from student to student.
42
And of course you're giving them the freedom to color and express what they just drew on their own.
43
So it just works great for really teaching those basic drawing skills,
44
giving them confidence, and setting them up for the future with expressing themselves and expressing their creativity.
45
Obviously the older the age, the more accurate their drawing will be.
46
It'll look more like yours, but again they can't get there until they've had practice to look at what you drew on the board
47
or on the paper and copy it
48
On their paper with the same spacing and length and thickness
49
and all of that again You learn so much through
50
that process So that is my little tip
51
and trick for you art teachers out there wanting to teach
52
drawing to kids I really highly recommend this method of the step-by-step with the grid with basic shapes
53
and then giving them the freedom to color it and and express it how they want to.
54
So I hope you found this video helpful.
55
