Pratique du Shadowing: NASA Artemis II Capsule Recovery Operations | U.S. Navy - Apprendre l'anglais à l'oral avec la vidéo

1
I mean, what kid doesn't dream about working for NASA and recovering astronauts that are going to space?
2
You know what I mean?
3
Like it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience and to be a part of such a global event and something, it's truly amazing.
4
I'm at a loss for words for it.
5
It's really an experience.
6
I think it's incredible to be even remotely involved.
7
The portion that we're doing is, the recovery is the last step of this huge mission, to partner this.
8
It's truly incredible to be a part of it and be in the Navy, be able to do it.
9
Use the Pagrening Splashdown, sending post landing command now.
10
And one of the ships you can see up close this week has been involved in some missions
11
that you could say are out of this world.
12
How early did the training begin for the mission?
13
I would say several years ago with multiple underway training missions on LPDs, as well as several trips to Houston, as well as Cape Canaveral.
14
We practice for this all the time, we do this all the time.
15
It's normal stuff for us, it's just going to be a little different with astronauts coming back from space.
16
So when an Integrity splashes down and lands on Earth, we will make first contact.
17
Say it.
18
Yes!
19
The first faces they will see will be US Navy dive medical.
20
As we walk through that capsule, that excitement, I see Ike to my left, smiling, giving him a big fist pump.
21
I see Christina to my right, double fist pump, smile.
22
You know, welcome home.
23
Welcome home, brother!
24
There it is, it's me!
25
I'm about to say welcome home, brother!
26
I was thrilled to see that all the crew was in good health.
27
It was very important for us.
28
Our primary mission as Navy divers is to approach the capsule, be it safe and clear, and then when the astronauts are being offloaded,
29
they've been checked, they're good to go,
30
they will approach the front porch pretty much just like a giant life raft and then get picked up by helicopters.
31
My specific role, I will be the first rescue swimmer to rescue the first astronaut coming back from space.
32
Big deal.
33
Yeah.
34
We're going to have the comms on the ship letting us know where the capsule is and everything like that.
35
They're on the front porch and then it's go time for us.
36
We get that call that they're ready and packaged for us.
37
I'm already going to be dressed out.
38
I'm sitting right here in this cabin.
39
Hoist is coming down to me.
40
I'm getting connected.
41
Once we're on that approach, that front porch, I'm already going down the hoist.
42
Once my feet are on deck on that front porch, it's connected.
43
I'm connecting the astronaut to me.
44
And then we're bringing astronauts back into the aircraft.
45
And then rinse and repeat for the second one and second aircraft.
46
Some impressive flying here by the Navy.
47
...the first helicopter carrying two of our Artemis II crew,
48
Pilot Victor Glover and Mission Specialist Christina Koch. And here we go.
49
We're seeing Jeremy.
50
Dream looking good as he takes his steps.
51
And there you go, we now have all four Artemis II crew members on the USS John P.
52
Murtha.
53
So the capsule will have to be towed back into the well deck.
54
The biggest thing is we want to make sure we have good solid connection points from the ship to the capsule.
55
NASA has, you know, a big winch on the boat that's going to be pulling the capsule back into.
56
Good evening to the crew of the John P.
57
Martina.
58
You have the Artemis II crew here, the integrity crew here.
59
Hey, Reid Wiseman, it's an honor to be on board your vessel.
60
Christina Cook, thanks for catching us.
61
This is Jeremy Hansen.
62
heartfelt appreciation for all you've done for us.

Practice Tips

To maximize your learning experience, consider using a shadowing app to practice your speaking skills. Begin by playing small sections of the video and pause frequently to repeat what you hear—this practice is known as shadow speech. Focus on imitating the tone, rhythm, and pronunciation of the speakers. The conversational and excited tone throughout the transcript provides a fantastic opportunity to engage with expressive language.

Since the pace of the dialogue can vary, start by listening at a slower speed to grasp the content. Gradually increase the speed as you become more comfortable. This will help you develop your listening comprehension while allowing you to practice shadow speak. Pay attention to how the speakers express their emotions, such as excitement and anticipation, as you incorporate these elements into your own speaking.

Additionally, consider recording your own voice while shadowing. Listening back to your recordings can help you identify areas for improvement and increase your speaking fluency. With consistent practice, you'll be able to confidently discuss topics related to space missions and recovery operations, enhancing both your vocabulary and understanding of technical language. Happy learning!
