Pratique du Shadowing: What is a Black Hole?

1
Space place in a snap.
2
What is a black hole?
3
Space is a pretty dark place.
4
Even so, some areas are darker than others.
5
Nothing is darker than a black hole.
6
A black hole is an area of such immense gravity that nothing, not even light, can escape from it.
7
Black holes form at the end of some stars' lives.
8
The energy that held the star together disappears and it collapses in on itself, producing a magnificent explosion.
9
Here's where things get crazy.
10
All of that material left over from the explosion, many times the mass of our sun, falls into an infinitely small point.
11
Black holes can form in many ways, though.
12
And large black holes can have tens, two millions of times the mass of our sun trapped in a point smaller than the tip of a pin.
13
Some black holes trap more and more material as their mass increases.
14
The point where all that mass is trapped is called a singularity.
15
It may be infinitely small, but its influence is enormous.
16
Imagine a circle with a singularity in the middle.
17
The gravity on the inside of the circle is so strong that nothing can escape.
18
It sucks in everything, even light.
19
That's why it's black.
20
This circle is known as the event horizon.
21
An event horizon is probably what you are thinking of when you think of a black hole.
22
What would happen, you might wonder, If we took a spacecraft near a black hole's event horizon, the answer?
23
Spaghettification.
24
That's the technical term at least.
25
As our spacecraft approaches, the gravity will be
26
so much stronger on the side closer to the black hole than at the other side
27
that it will get completely stretched out like a piece of spaghetti.
28
Try as you may.
29
You would be hard -pressed to find anything weirder or cooler than a black hole.

Comment s’entraîner avec cette vidéo
