1
So you know how we live on our awesome planet Earth?
2
Well, Earth is like a giant greenhouse.
3
If you've ever been inside a greenhouse, the sun's rays come through the windows, but they can't escape.
4
And that's why the greenhouse gets and stays warm.
5
But here on Earth, instead of a greenhouse, we have an atmosphere that surrounds our planet like a big invisible blanket.
6
This is called the greenhouse effect and it helps keep our planet at the perfect temperature for us to live.
7
But here's the thing, people have been doing things that are making that blanket thicker and thicker.
8
We've been burning fossil fuels like gasoline, diesel and oil, but we also cut down a lot of trees too.
9
And this is what is adding more and more heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere.
10
You see, when the sun's rays come down to Earth, they warm up the ground.
11
But then some of that heat tries to escape back up into space.
12
That's when the greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere comes into play.
13
And those greenhouse gases trap the heat and bounce it back down to the ground like a big invisible trampoline.
14
But just like anything, too much of a good thing can be bad.
15
When we add too many greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, it can make the Earth too warm and cause all kinds of problems,
16
like melting ice caps and also changing weather patterns.
17
And that's why it's called global warming, because our Earth is a globe and it gets warm and well,
18
globe, warm, earth, warm, you get it, global warming.
19
And the best way to slow this down is to be kind to our planet Earth by using less energy, walking or biking instead of driving, and planting more trees.
20
If we all work together, we can keep our planet happy and healthy for a long, long time.
21
But if we don't do something about global warming, well, some not so great things could happen to our planet.
22
The Earth could get too hot, and that can cause the ice at the North and South Poles to melt,
23
which could make the sea level rise and flood some of the land that people and animals live on.
24
And the weather could get all crazy, with some places getting really dry, while others get really, really wet.
25
Some animals could even go extinct because their homes are destroyed.
26
Global warming can become a bigger problem the more we don't take care of our planet Earth,
27
and that can cause all sorts of trouble for everyone living here.
28
But if we all work together and take small steps to be kind to the Earth,
29
we can help slow it down and keep our planet happy and healthy for generations to come.
30
Well hey, guess what?
31
Now we all know a little bit more about global warming.
32
Thanks for watching and don't forget to smash that thumbs up button.
33
