The dress form is an essential tool when it comes to making clothes.

It can also be used to create simple and beautiful fashion illustrations.

how to draw a dress form First, draw two trapezoid shapes, one on top of the other.

This will be the guide for the dress form's torso.

Next, sketch two short lines slightly tilted towards each other.

Connect them by sketching an oblong shape.

Smoothen out the corners and add some curves.

Erase any extra lines and marks.

Redefine the outline of the dress form drawing.

To draw the dress form's stand, sketch a straight line downwards.

There are many different styles for the base of the dress form.

My favorite one to draw is this one with curled edges.

Once the basic dress form is done, you can start illustrating and designing on it.

I like drawing the guide lines/markings onto my dress form illustrations.

I draw the horizontal lines around the neck, bust, waist and hips.

And the vertical lines down the center front, and the front seams.

Another way to style the dress form: draw the knob shape at the neck.

Then sketch a wire cage at the skirt area.

Use slight curves for the horizontal lines...

...to create the illusion of depth.

Add straight vertical lines to finish.

Dress forms make a lovely base for sketching clothes, like dresses and gowns.

I'm going to make a fashion illustration of an ombré gown...

I've sketched it onto the basic dress form....

...and I'll color the illustration with watercolors.
