As you may have heard recently, that the paid wallpaper app, Panels, from the YouTuber MKBHD,

will be shutting down at the end of the year.

Now, as you may remember,

Marcus's biggest controversy last year was when he was caught on camera recklessly charging $50 for some JPEGs.

Whose bowls are these?

Alright, to be fair, you didn't have to pay for the wallpapers, as you could download a lower resolution version of the image for free,

and I call these more pixelated versions, the MKB -SD images but if you wanted the high -res MKB HD images,

you had to pay or watch a couple of ads.

Although I can't argue with the quality of the selection.

Like, check it out.

They've got teal.

Of course, in response to fan backlash to the price, Marquez said they would work hard to make the money worth it in the future,

which is kind of like going to McDonald's and buying a quarter pounder with cheese.

And then McDonald's says that the cheese is coming next month.

And a year later, we find out the cheese never came.

As the app still only offers wallpapers with no other extra bonuses to make it worth it.

Unlike Netflix, who only cost a little more and not only have moving pictures, but also video games as part of their subscription.

And so, panels released an official statement announcing the app's closure after not being able to find customers.

I mean, the right fit with their development team or something.

Sure, that was the problem.

The good news is, anyone who bought a yearly subscription will be refunded,

and the code for the app will be going open source for anyone else who wants to build an app

and charge for the colour orange.

And to give him credit, Marquez also posted a video announcing the closure on his main channel.

In an unlisted video with the comments off.

Oh come on, who does he think he is?
