1
Hey everyone, it's Cheryl from Teaching Two and Three-Year-Olds.
2
During the first weeks of school,
3
it is so important that you establish that relationship with your students and build the trust that is so important, so needed.
4
And one of the ways that we do this, we started this about five years ago, is that we break up our, we have 10 students in our class,
5
but during the first week of school, we have five come on Tuesday and the other five come on Thursday.
6
this makes it so much nicer I wish we would have started this a long time ago
7
because it allows us to get to know the children better
8
because there's not as many of them we have a lot more one-on-one with them
9
and especially if we have separation issues
10
which we always do in our twos class always there's always
11
going to be some teary children who have a hard time saying because for some of them, they've never left their parents before.
12
So I like that we have less so I can really focus on that.
13
And during that time, I also can't stress enough, just watching, observing, getting to know what they're interested in.
14
And once you find out what that is, bring more of that into the classroom.
15
Last year, I had a little guy who had a hard time saying goodbye to his mom.
16
But I found out that he had the biggest love for elephants.
17
So I brought elephants into the classroom.
18
Another child who had a hard time loved cars, construction cars especially.
19
So I set up a little construction area.
20
It didn't take much, just on a shelf that he could go to.
21
It helped him so much.
22
Finding out what they love is so important because you're bringing them in.
23
You're engaging them with what they feel comfortable with.
24
Meanwhile, you're listening to them and slowly getting to know them better.
25
And you're forming that very, very important bond that you will have throughout the school year.
26
Those are just some tips that I do that I have found have really helped kick off the school year more successfully.
27
And if you want more tips, make sure to find my back to school prep playlist,
28
because that has all the videos I've done on getting my classroom ready for back to school.
29
Thanks for watching.
