It's becoming more trendy and more popular for parents to use this tool in labor,

you might be wondering, will hypnobirthing work for me and my birth?

So let's talk about it.

I'm Bridget Tyler, a birth doula,

In this video, I'm talking about some ways that hypnobirthing might not work for you in your birth.

Number one, if you're not practicing it enough,

you won't naturally use hypnobirthing in labor.

Hypnobirthing is all about connecting to your breath

and using the power of your mind to lead your body in the direction

that you want it to go using visualization and meditation.

In order for hypnobirthing to work for you in your birth,

you need to make it a daily practice starting early on in pregnancy as early as you can.

The second reason hypnobirthing may not work for you is

if you're putting all your eggs into one basket and hypnobirthing is the only way you're preparing to to cope in birth.

Labor is intense and having multiple tools to bring out as you need them is
21
so valuable to help you during different times in labor.

Hypnobirthing is a powerful foundation to build on.

Then you can add in labor positions depending on where baby is in your pelvis,

counter pressure, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, etc. All of these things work together to help you stay in control of your birth,

but one alone may not be effective or work for the entirety of labor.

3. You're using only your trust and belief in birth to guide your experience in a system

that doesn't always trust in birth and is prone to using interventions.

Listen, your intuition and belief in yourself is one of the most powerful tools that you can bring into your birth.

However, you might feel unprepared and ill-equipped if your basis of decision-making to avoid the interventions being suggested by your providers,

such as induction, augmentation to help speed up labor,

an epidural, et cetera, is only your belief in birth and yourself.

Is your intuition and that belief enough?

It should be.

You shouldn't have to explain anything,

but you may feel you need to,

and you may make decisions you're uncomfortable with if you don't have the information or knowledge to help you navigate them.

Having information along with your deep beliefs

and philosophy of birth helps you feel confident to strive towards the type of birth

that you want and are working so hard for.

So to help make hypnobirthing work for you and your birth,

you need to be practicing your breath work and meditations daily.

You need to build out your toolbox to support labor progress,

and you need to be informed so you can confidently navigate labor equipped with knowledge

and your belief to feel empowered in any situation.
