The Production Validation Test (PVT) Phase of the NPI Process - 영상으로 영어 말하기 배우기

1
Now, PVT, the final phase.
2
Typically, how many pieces would you make, let's say a typical IoT product about this size,
3
let's say, until you actually confirm this is correct, the right quality, the right production rate,
4
we are confident that we can really just keep ramping up on this basis.
5
If we've had a successful EVT and DVT, we would shoot for a thousand units of PVT.
6
And you will not get a 99% yield rate most likely, you might have to settle with a 90% yield rate.
7
And the parts that are failing are parts then that can be used for for internal testing, they can be used for debugging,
8
they can be used for problem solving.
9
But that's typically what we would shoot for to make sure that we're ready to qualify for mass production, which is the final phase.
10
Because there's always a timing constraint right?
11
There's a budget constraint of course the longer you spend there the more it's costing everybody including the suppliers right?
12
Everybody just wants to go into mass production.
13
Yes I mean most companies they need to be shipping products to make money to keep alive.
14
If they want to wait till they don't, if they have to have 99% off the production line before they ship then they're not getting any revenue
15
and and they're not going to be able to support their efforts until probably too late.
16
So what's the timeline?
17
Let's say PVT is confirmed that maybe you're at 90-95% first time yield rate.
18
How long does it take you if there's, let's say, continuous production typically to get to 99%?
19
It could be anything from one month to three or four months.
20
depends on the complexity of the product and how diligent the product development and NPI phase has been.

Vocabulary and speaking notes for this lesson

This C1 speaking lesson is built on the video “The Production Validation Test (PVT) Phase of the NPI Process”. The speaker keeps coming back to these words: production, product, rate, Pvt, yield. This video has 20 sentences and 298 words to shadow. The speech runs for 2:00. The speaker talks at a natural 150 words per minute, close to everyday conversation. 88% of the words are among the 3,000 most common in English; the rest is worth studying before you start. 4 of its 20 sentences are questions, so it is good practice for question intonation and short answers.

How to practise with this video

  1. Listen to the whole video once without speaking and note the words you do not know.
  2. Start at 0.75× speed, shadow it sentence by sentence, then go back to normal speed once it feels easy.
  3. Record yourself and compare with the original, paying attention to words like yield, confirm, solve.
