1
I used to think attraction was about confidence, like being bold, saying the right things, having that presence, or being the loudest person in the room.
2
But the more I meet people, the more I realize that's not what actually sticks with you, it's the people who are respectful.
3
And I realize it's also something that you can notice right away.
4
It's subtle, but it's in the way they talk to people, the way they listen to others carefully,
5
the way they stay humble even when there's more to gain, the kind that don't interrupt you to prove a point,
6
and the kind that don't make everything about themselves.
7
And instead, they just let you be heard, and for that reason, it feels rare.
8
I feel like in my life, I've been around so many different people.
9
People who are funny, confident, outgoing, charismatic, calm.
10
They all had their own charms and traits that made them attractive.
11
But one thing that they all had in common that made them stand out was the fact that they were respectful.
12
When you think about it, you could be funny and have no respect for people.
13
You could be confident but let it turn into arrogance.
14
And you could also be charismatic but have bad personalities.
15
But when you have that ability to make others feel seen, that alone makes people feel valued and can make you attractive.
16
It just feels different because you can tell that they're not trying to impress other people.
17
They don't make you feel small for saying something simple.
18
They don't rush you in conversations.
19
And as a result, you leave those interactions feeling good because of how they responded to your stories and thoughts.
20
I think people misunderstand what respect looks like.
21
It's not just being polite.
22
It's not just saying please and thank you.
23
It's how you make people feel when you don't need anything from them.
24
That's the real test because anyone can be nice when there's something to gain.
25
But respectful people stay consistent with how they stay mindful even with the smallest things.
26
They pay attention to seemingly trivial things and make you feel so valued.
27
Back when I was in high school, I was very insecure.
28
I was very insecure of my identity, where I'm from, my physical appearance, my English accent, my height, just basically everything.
29
I always felt like I didn't have everything that others had.
30
Like I didn't feel smart enough.
31
I didn't think I was athletic enough.
32
And as a result, I always felt so useless because I thought I was a disappointment to my family.
33
Anything that someone did for me, I over thanked them.
34
And in that way, I never kind of valued myself because I thought I didn't deserve it.
35
It wasn't obvious because I was hiding them well enough for people to not notice.
36
Then there was this one girl, she was older than me.
37
We had one same class together but she always made me feel
38
so valued and just be proud of myself because of the way she talked to me.
39
She used to do this thing whenever I joked around.
40
She smiled, she looked at me straight in my eyes
41
and told me how funny she thinks I am and how she respects the person I'm becoming.
42
And how she can tell that I try to bring so much joy to others around me.
43
And in that way, she told me that I was a good person.
44
Even when I felt so insecure, even though I felt so worthless every day,
45
she saw the best version of me and wanted me to keep that same energy.
46
You know, although that might sound confusing and it could easily come across as someone who's trying too hard,
47
in those moments, I felt her intention and I felt so much respect from her.
48
The reason, I don't know why, I don't know what she saw in me,
49
but the fact that she believed in me so much created this non -existent confidence in me and as a result, made me believe in myself.
50
Just by giving me respect and cheering me on, I could fight off whatever inner demon that I was dealing with at the time.
51
And that's why I think respectful people are so attractive and most importantly, they're so valuable because it's not about surface level charm.
52
It's about treating people well and paying attention.
53
Like whatever people are saying are worth listening to and that kind of feeling stays with people.
54
I think you're drawn to them because they feel mature.
55
They don't seem to be moved by this unnecessary trauma but things that really matter like genuine friendship,
56
relationship, family or kindness not because they're trying to impress you but because they're present.
57
They're aware and they're intentional.
58
I feel like in a world where everyone's distracted where everyone's trying to say more, be more or do more where there's so much overthinking,
59
stress, anxiety and just unhappiness, someone who simply knows how to be respectful toward others and just respect oneself, that's different.
60
It means you're aware enough to care, to listen a little more, to be a little more mindful, and to not make everything about yourself.
61
At the end of the day, people might forget the exact words of what you said.
62
They might forget what you did, but they always remember how you made them feel.
63
And if being around you makes them feel respected, that's definitely something that they don't come across often.
64
And that's what makes respectful people attractive.
65
Thanks for watching the video.
66
Today was actually the first day of my internship.
67
It's full of excitement.
68
It's a new environment, new people, new skills that I'll be going to learn, new tools that I'll be using,
69
and I'm super excited for how this journey will turn out.
70
So thanks for watching the video, and I hope you guys are doing well wherever you are, and I'll see you guys next time.
71
Peace.
