The Sun and the Earth Track 1.
5
Reading The Sun and the Earth For hundreds of years,
6
people thought that the sun moved around the Earth.
7
This was only natural because when we see the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening,
8
we can only think that the sun is moving around us.
9
But one man did not agree with this idea.
10
He said that if the sun is moving around the Earth, we cannot explain the movements of Venus.
11
This man finally concluded that the sun does not move around the earth, but the earth moves around the sun.
12
This man's name is Copernicus.
13
At first, people thought Copernicus was crazy.
14
They said he was a liar and that he must be killed.
15
And so, Copernicus was burned to death for saying that the earth moved around the sun.
16
Later though, people learned that Copernicus was in fact telling the truth.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "Unit 1 New exploring Read & Write 1" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
