10
You're about to start.
11
Tom, how's it going?
12
Oh, yeah, it's going fantastic, yeah.
13
I'm loving it.
14
Have you always wanted to do something like this?
15
Well, I just, it was my dad's birthday two years ago, so me and my mum decided to take my dad to come and see the show, and I was a bit of a fan of dancing, and then I said, oh,
16
mum, why don't I audition for this, because it looks quite cool.
17
Yeah.
18
And then I ended up auditioning, and then two years later I got the role.
19
Tana, I mean, you're American, aren't you?
20
So how did you get the job?
21
Well, I was actually auditioning for the New York,
22

24
and I said yes
25
and you all live in this big Billy Elliot house explain how this like all of us live together
26
so like because some of us come from Manchester America Newcastle
27
so we've all got a live in one big house yeah
28

so it's what has it work in terms of the schoolwork
30
and the and the acting and the practice and all
31
that kind of stuff tana well um we have school in the morning at the house it starts at nine
32
and then we finish about 12 15 have our lunch till 1 15
33
and then we travel to wherever we have our rehearsals
34
and we do our rehearsals from two o 'clock till um probably about eight at night
35
so it's a full schedule
36
and i'm just wondering i mean billy ellick comes in the northeast
37
so you've got to do a northeast you've got to do an accent haven't you um how's it going Um, it's going well, yeah.
38
Can you two give us a bit of a demo on what you're like when you're doing the accent?
39
Sure.
40
I can't really explain it.
41
I haven't got the words.
42
It's a feeling that you can't control.
43
I suppose it's like forgetting, losing who you are.
44
And at the same time, something makes you whole.
45
Very good.
46
Thank you so much.
47
That was really good.
48
Now, you've signed up for how long, the pair of you?
49
Well, we have a contract for six months, and then if we get too tall of our voice breaks, we get kind of kicked out.
50
So our contract gets renewed if we're not too tall and our voice doesn't break.
51
Listen, all the best for the show, and thank you so much for coming in.
52
Thank you.
53
Good to meet you.
54

  • "It's going fantastic" – A lively way to say things are going well.
  • "I ended up auditioning" – Useful for describing unexpected outcomes.
  • "It's a full schedule" – Perfect for talking about busy days.
  • "I suppose it's like" – A natural filler when explaining feelings or ideas.
  • "get kind of kicked out" – A casual phrase for being asked to leave (in a lighthearted context).

Fix Your Weak Spots: Accent & Rhythm with the Shadowing Technique

The video’s Northeast English accent is a fun challenge for pronunciation practice. Try the shadowing technique: pause the clip, repeat Tom and Tana’s lines immediately, mimicking their tone and stress. Notice how they shorten words like "kind of" to "kinda" and link phrases ("ended up auditioning"). This helps you sound more natural, not just correct. Focus on the question-answer rhythm too—how they respond quickly but clearly. With practice, you’ll master the flow of casual English conversations.
