1
so phil you said at the weekend
2
you did a lot of housework what did you do well i mean we share out the housework
3
but um i was had to make sure
4
i was cleaning the kitchen um i also did we say do the hoovering
5
or do the vacuuming um around all the carpets to make sure that's nice
6
and clean under all the furniture
7
so georgie do you do a lot of housework well i live in a shared flat
8
so i have two housemates who are not super clean
9
so I have a bit of a routine with them every weekend one person will clean the communal areas
10
so those are the areas that are shared so the kitchen
11
and the living room one person will clean those properly
12
so wipe the surfaces wipe away the crumbs
13
so the crumbs are little bits of food then hoover
14
or sweep the floor so that removes the crumbs from the floor
15
so that the floor is ready to be mopped so
16
when you mop that's when you make the floor wet
17
and properly clean that's a really impressive system um i like the way you've got it
18
so organized we always find we run out of time to get a lot of housework done
19
or we're doing stuff at the weekend or we're working during the week
20
and so some of those jobs they get put off
21
and put off and put off which isn't good
22
but um it happens sometimes well there's also just
23
so many other things we would rather be doing
24
so yeah it's easy to to put off to delay georgie we're talking about household chores is there one
25
that you really hate doing yes phil there is one job
26
that comes to mind immediately
27
which is cleaning the bathroom specifically cleaning the toilet oh yes
28
not very nice yeah no not at all do you have one
29
that you hate the most um
30
i think what i really dislike is trying to clean things
31
the bits on the cooker where everything gets stuck on
32
and you have to really rub it
33
and scrub it really hard um i hate those jobs
34
so do you you said
35
that you share you share the the chores do you get your kids to do chores
36
now that's a really good question we ask the kids to do chores
37
and sometimes they do something okay
38
but not a lot i'd really like them to be able to keep their rooms tidy
39
that's never gonna happen it feels um i'd really like it
40
if they could you know help out cleaning the living room putting things away
41
but yeah we haven't taught them very well oh maybe one day maybe it's
42
when you become an adult i think that you really appreciate a clean space so hopefully
43
that will come I was terrible as a teenager I I didn't do much as a teenager at all
44
so this is just coming back to me now yeah well me too
45
so we've talked about chores that we hate doing um
46
but are there any jobs that you enjoy doing um well you know what laundry
47
or washing that's washing your clothes that can sometimes be really satisfying
48
when you get a lot of it done um
49
and actually i've just got a new washing machine
50
and it's much bigger than the one i had before
51
so i can do so much in one load phil
52
that is so exciting even better
53
because it's summer at the moment i can get it dry
54
so quick it's amazing i love
55
that putting a putting a load of washing in the in the washing machine
56
and then having it dry by the end of the day
57
that is so good it's it's the best thing teenage georgie would be
58
so disappointed that i'm excited by laundry
59
but here we go okay phil let's recap the vocabulary we used in this conversation starting with housework
60
so this is the general term for jobs that we have to do in the house.
61
And then we had chores, which are the specific jobs that you have to do.
62
For example, laundry.
63
Yes.
64
So laundry is washing your clothes.
65
We say do the laundry or just do the washing.
66
Yes.
67
And we had some other chores, for example, hoovering and sweeping the floor, which is what you do when there are crumbs on the floor.
68
After you've swept the crumbs, you can mop the floor which is when you make the floor wet
69
and clean it like that yes we also talked about jobs
70
that you hate and sometimes
71
when you really hate a job you end up putting it off
72
that means to delay it if you put something off you delay something sometimes
73
because you just don't want to do it so phil
74
that is the end of this episode of real easy english
75
but we'll be back next week won't we yes we'll be back with another episode also don't forget about
76
