Lektion 2 · Etappe 1: Die Grundlagen
There is / there are
AnfängerForm & Gebrauch
there is/are + Nomen — sagen, dass etwas existiert oder irgendwo ist
1.Wofür man es braucht
Mit there is / there are sagst du, dass es etwas gibt oder dass sich etwas irgendwo befindet — meistens, wenn du es zum ersten Mal erwähnst.
There's a pharmacy near my house.
Bei mir in der Nähe gibt es eine Apotheke.
There are twelve students in my class.
In meiner Klasse sind zwölf Schüler.
There's some rice in the cooker.
Im Reiskocher ist noch etwas Reis.
Das deutsche „es gibt“ heißt auf Englisch nie „it gives“. Sag There is a big market in my town — nicht „It gives a big market in my town“. Auch mit have geht es nicht: „In my town has a big market“ ist falsch.
2.Is oder are?
Das Verb richtet sich nach dem Nomen, das danach kommt.
| Steht mit | Beispiel | |
|---|---|---|
| there is (there's) | Nomen im Singular, unzählbare Nomen | There's a problem. There's some milk. |
| there are | Nomen im Plural | There are two problems. There are some eggs. |
Bei einer Aufzählung richtet man sich in der Alltagssprache meist nach dem ersten Nomen: There's a desk and two chairs in the room.
3.Verneinung und Fragen
| Singular / unzählbar | Plural | |
|---|---|---|
| Verneint | There isn't a… / There isn't any… | There aren't any… |
| Verneint mit no | There's no… | There are no… |
| Frage | Is there a… / any…? | Are there any…? |
| Kurzantwort | Yes, there is. / No, there isn't. | Yes, there are. / No, there aren't. |

In diesem Gebäude gibt es keinen Aufzug.
There's no sugar left.
