There is / there are

Iniciante

Forma e uso

there is/are + substantivo — dizer que algo existe ou está em algum lugar

1.Para que serve

Use there is / there are para dizer que algo existe ou está em algum lugar — geralmente quando você menciona aquilo pela primeira vez.

Tem uma farmácia perto da minha casa.

  • There are twelve students in my class.

Há doze alunos na minha turma.

  • There's some rice in the cooker.

No Brasil dizemos “tem” para falar que algo existe (“Na minha cidade tem um mercado grande”), mas em inglês have não funciona assim. “My town has a big market” está certo, mas “In my town has a big market” está errado. Diga There is a big market in my town.

2.Is ou are?

O verbo concorda com o substantivo que vem depois dele.
