There is / there are

用 there is / there are 表示某物存在或在某处——通常是第一次提到它的时候。

• There's a pharmacy near my house.

  我家附近有一家药店。

• There are twelve students in my class.

  我们班有十二个学生。

• There's some rice in the cooker.

  电饭锅里还有点米饭。

💡中文的“有”既表示“拥有”也表示“存在”，所以容易说成 “In my town has a big market”，这是错的。“My town has a big market” 可以，但表示某地有某物，最自然的说法是 There is a big market in my town。

动词和它后面的名词保持一致。

列举多个事物时，日常口语通常跟第一个名词保持一致：There's a desk and two chairs in the room.

• There isn't a lift in this building.

  这栋楼没有电梯。

• There's no sugar left.

  糖用完了。

• Are there any good cafés around here?

  这附近有好的咖啡馆吗？

• How many people are there in your family?

  你家有几口人？

只有 be 的部分变化，“there” 保持不变。

• There was a storm last night.

  昨晚有一场暴风雨。（过去，单数）

• There were a lot of people at the concert.

  音乐会上有很多人。（过去，复数）

• There will be a meeting on Friday.

  星期五有一个会议。

• There's going to be a test next week.

  下周会有一次考试。

• There has been an accident on the highway.

  高速公路上发生了一起事故。

第一次引出某物时用 there is / are。再次谈到它时，用 it（单数）或 they（复数）。

• There's a new bakery on our street. It's really good.

  我们这条街新开了一家面包店。它真的很好。

• There are two windows in my room, but they're very small.

  我房间有两扇窗户，但它们很小。

• ✗In my school has a big library.

  ✓There is a big library in my school.

  某地有某物 → 用 there is。

• ✗There is many shops.

  ✓There are many shops.

  复数名词 → 用 there are。

• ✗There are some water.

  ✓There is some water.

  water 是不可数名词 → 用 there is。

• ✗Is there any eggs?

  ✓Are there any eggs?

  eggs 是复数 → 用 are。
