When we were recording the Black album, I was listening to this band that was on this independent record label, and I was really into their first album.

And I sat down with the singer, and his name was Kurt, and he said that one of his favorite albums was Ride the Lightning,

and one of his favorite Metallica songs was Whiplash.

And, you know, right after we finished recording the Black album,

you know, Kurt, he put out an album called Nevermind.

And all of a sudden, you know, grunge was everywhere.

Kurt was a big Metallica fan.

And he loved Ride the Lightning.

And he loved Whiplash.

And I can remember when we played in Seattle in, I think it was 1992, Kurt came to the show.

And he was in the snake pit, you know, our little area on the stage.

And I remember the entire time that we were playing, he kept on waving his arms at me.

And, you know, I went over there to see what he had to say, you know, because I could actually hear what he said in between songs.

and his one question to me was, are you guys going to play Whiplash tonight? And we did.

We played Whiplash and he was just loving it.
