Leçon 55 · Étape 4: Temps et modaux
Futur antérieur
AvancéFuture perfect
Forme et emploi
will have + V3 — une action terminée avant un moment du futur
1.Formation
Le futur antérieur = will have + participe passé (V3), identique pour tous les sujets — toujours will have, même avec he / she / it.
| Structure | Exemple | |
|---|---|---|
| Affirmation | S + will have + V3 | I'll have finished. |
| Négation | S + won't have + V3 | They won't have left. |
| Question | Will + S + have + V3? | Will you have finished by six? |
| Réponse courte | Yes, S will. / No, S won't. | Yes, I will. / No, I won't. |
À l'oral rapide, will have devient 'll have et le have est très faible, presque « I'll've finished ».
2.Quand l'utiliser
1. Quelque chose qui sera terminé avant (ou au plus tard à) un moment du futur — souvent avec by + une heure, by the time + proposition, before
Don't worry — I'll have sent you the file by lunchtime.
By the time we get to the station, the last train will have left.
Call me after eight. I won't have finished work before then.
2. Compter une durée ou une quantité jusqu'à un moment du futur — will have + V3 + for…
Next June, Lan will have worked here for five years.
By the end of this course, you will have learned over 500 new words.
In December, my parents will have been married for thirty years.
En décembre, mes parents seront mariés depuis trente ans.
Pour insister sur une activité qui dure, tu peux utiliser will have been + -ing (le futur antérieur continu) : By six, I'll have been driving for ten hours.
It's ten o'clock. Mai will have arrived in Hanoi by now.
Il est dix heures. Mai a dû arriver à Hanoï, maintenant.
You'll have heard the news, I suppose.
Le futur antérieur français (« j'aurai fini ») correspond bien à will have + V3. I finished it by Friday). Quand il y a un moment du futur et l'idée « ce sera déjà fait à ce moment-là », pense à will have + V3. (I'll finish it by Friday est correct aussi — ça dit simplement ce que tu vas faire ; I'll have finished it by Friday insiste sur le fait que ce sera terminé à ce moment-là.)
3.By, by the time et until
- by + un moment = pas plus tard que ce moment, très fréquent avec will have + V3 : I'll have finished by Friday.
- by the time + présent simple = avant que… : By the time you wake up, I'll have left (pas : will wake up) — voir la leçon « Subordonnées de temps au futur ».
- until = jusqu'à ce moment, sans interruption ; s'emploie avec une action qui dure : I'll be working until six (pas : I'll have finished until six) — voir la leçon « By ou until ».
4.Comparé aux temps proches
| Temps | Exemple | On compte jusqu'à |
|---|---|---|
| Plus-que-parfait | When I met Lan, she had worked here for a year. | un moment du passé |
| Present perfect | Lan has worked here for four years. | maintenant |
| Futur antérieur | Next June, Lan will have worked here for five years. | un moment du futur |
Will be -ing ou will have + V3 ? À ce moment-là, si l'action est en cours → will be -ing ; si elle est terminée → will have + V3.
At seven, I'll be cooking dinner, so don't call.
By eight, I'll have eaten, so we can talk then.
À huit heures, j'aurai mangé, donc on pourra parler. (terminé)
