1
I was such a hurting, broken person who was doing a lot of bad things.
2
Learning to love people the way God loves.
3
She faces so much ridicule and judgment and all these sort of things just for being in the position she's in.
4
And it wasn't maybe that I was intentionally being a d*.
5
That's the kind of dad and brother and person I want to be.
6
I've learned through my relationship with Jesus and I think,
7
you know, learning about the fact that no matter how much I,
8
you know, work hard at all the stuff that I've been given, it's my life is a gift, you know, and I've been given all these things,
9
you know, I work hard at my craft and I put in effort.
10
And a lot of people would say, well, you did it.
11
It was you.
12
But I know that I didn't plan my birth.
13
I didn't plan to be here.
14
It was a gift from the beginning.
15
And so with that being said, I think that's humility on its own, knowing that I didn't ask to be here.
16
this life is a gift.
17
And every day when I go to my creator and I'm like, yo, you created me.
18
Thank you for, you know, life.
19
Thank you for the trees.
20
Thank you for the sun.
21
Thank you for the sky.
22
Thank you for the lake.
23
Thank you for my home.
24
Thank you.
25
I think out of that, you start to really learn what humility really is.
26
I think that I've, uh, I've experienced so much in my short life.
27
I've seen so much.
28
I've experienced a lot of, you know, things that a lot of people would look and think that would bring such fulfillment,
29
whether it's things and cars and clothes and money and stuff and girls.
30
And I've just I've had a lot of stuff that really left me empty.
31
And so I really started looking to find fulfillment.
32
And, you know, I realized that,
33
you know, the things that I thought were going to continue to give me that fulfillment that still to this day, you know, I feel these lies that say,
34
hey, well, if you just get this, you'll be happy.
35
And if you get this, you'll be happy.
36
I really, I think I really took a deep dive at the condition of my soul
37
and I was just hurting and broken.
38
And so I, I asked God, I said, if you're real, um, I, I need you to, to kind of show me.
39
And, and, um, I think it says in the Bible, if you seek me, you will find me.
40
And rather than seeking after these other things, I just kind of started looking to God and, um, he, uh, showed me,
41
uh, you know, that I was worth saving, that I was worth dying on the cross for,
42
that I was worth, that my life was worth, that I was worthy.
43
And it had nothing to do with what I did, because at that time, I was such a hurting,
44
broken person who was doing a lot of bad things, you know?
45
And so to me, I felt like, what did I do to deserve, you know, the creator's love.
46
And so I, he just, you know, showed me you are, you're worth it.
47
You know, you are, I died for you.
48
I love you.
49
I forgive you.
50
You're redeemed.
51
You're mine.
52
I love you.
53
I'm obsessed with you.
54
And that is what changed my heart to know that, well, if this guy loves me through all of my stuff,
55
it started to show me that through all the people in humanity,
56
everyone has stuff everyone's has a sinful nature everybody has it allowed me to start looking you know
57
and um really seeing the best in people
58
and learning to love people the way God loves
59
because you know we start making up what we feel love is according to our standards
60
but God has his own standard and um
61
so I just started you know as I continue to seek
62
him he just keeps showing me his standard of love
63
and what love is and that's patience and kindness
64
and you know all these things that are his character and
65
that never change so that's something
66
that has really changed my outlook on humility how I see the world how I love people how I lead
67
and yeah And I'm just,
68
it's given me such a cool perspective to be able to really look
69
and know that the best is still yet to come.
70
And that's something I'm working on every day with my wife, especially because she's the most important person in my life.
71
just being aware of her needs and her her pains
72
and her hurts and her desires and her you know insecurities
73
because you know I'm just you know I'm learning every day what it means to be a husband and to,
74
you know, really have empathy with her and for her because,
75
first of all, I don't know what it's like to be a woman.
76
She is such a strong, incredible woman.
77
She faces so much ridicule and judgment and all these sort of things just for being in the position she's in.
78
And there's oftentimes where I, you know, I've been dealing with what I've been dealing with for years,
79
for, you know, over 10 years.
80
And a lot of it I've come accustomed to and just kind of learned how to deal with it.
81
And it's a lot, you know, it's just a lot on our plate right now.
82
So one thing I'm kind of struggling with is, you know, having that empathy and understanding that,
83
you know, I don't know what that scene looks like.
84
I don't know what that feels like.
85
And just try to, because in doing that and feeling
86
that empathy towards her and feeling her pain
87
and we actually become closer that's actually a really good bridge builder
88
and a good way for us to connect a fixer you want to fix the problem why are you
89
so frustrated right now why are you feeling like this you're ruining my day
90
because you're in a bad mood you know what i mean
91
and it's like that doesn't that makes her you know doesn't make her feel good
92
that makes her feel like she's not seen, that she's not understood.
93
And everybody wants to feel seen and understood.
94
So it's so easy to be like, why are you feeling like this?
95
Like, just be grateful for what we have, you know what I mean?
96
And so I think for me as a husband, I'm just, I'm just want to, I don't want to distract myself.
97
I want to feel that pain with her and for her
98
so that we can be closer and I can understand where she's at.
99
I think when I was young, I would look up to people who, because I was immature and I didn't really,
100
I was just immature and I didn't realize what it meant to be a good leader.
101
And I didn't know those qualities really.
102
And so I would look up to these people who I just thought were cool,
103
you know, and I would see these cool aspects of them
104
because they really are cool people like they're just like they have this edge
105
and this coolness about them but then you know you look at their lifestyle
106
and it's like you know they might be disrespectful or
107
have this lifestyle where you know their their family their friends don't really respect them
108
and yada yada yada but you respect their either the craft you know or their ability to you know
109
use their gift in a way that's like whoa this person is
110
so talented and you look up to this person
111
but then there's these areas in their life where you're like man for a kid you don't you're you're
112
so in awe of the thing that they're so good of and the gift that you kind of like
113
put that other stuff second like well this is cool
114
but like oh who cares about his ability to be a husband who cares about you know
115
and that probably will set you can say
116
that about a lot of things i mean go even going
117
to this like michael jordan documentary you know what i mean
118
and it's like this guy's a killer basketball player
119
and like people love the fact that he's an incredible basketball player
120
and he's this like dominant force on the court but like you know um
121
i just want to be someone who cares about you know what what legacy is this person leaving with
122
you know their family and their friends
123
because i think that's as i get older i realize the importance of
124
that i realize the importance of you know um
125
the impact and the the impact in the relationships
126
that i leave behind that that really is the most special you know um that because um
127
you got a lot of young people
128
or the people who might look up to the gifts that you have as a leader, you know, the, the, the,
129
the, the, the mantle the the level of success that you have or whatever,
130
like you got these people who so badly want to be in their position and they don't.
131
And so when you do that, I think and to be honest,
132
like I've been in a place, especially when I was really young of just not understanding,
133
going back to like understanding the value of leaving,
134
you know, what is the mark I'm leaving as a leader and as a friend and as a boss and as a, because that stuff matters, you know,
135
it matters more than the actual thing you're doing because we're doing it for people at the end of the day.
136
People is the mission, people is the goal.
137
And so like there was a time where I was so,
138
just consumed in getting and achieving and next thing that, you know, wasn't maybe that I was intentionally being a, but I just, you know,
139
people were just not the main priority.
140
It was about me getting to the next step, showing people how successful I can be, how cool I can be, you know?
141
And so I can just say firsthand that that's not the way to go.
142
And, you know, you're gonna feel you get to this place where just no
143
one respects you no one is really wants to be around you
144
and they can't wait to get out of your presence
145
and they can't wait to you know that's i don't want to be
146
that kind of person i want to be a person who
147
can't wait to be around justin he just gives me
148
so much life he enables me to be the best version of me
149
when i'm around justin i feel encouraged empowered loved respected honored that's the type of leader i I want to be.
150
And I think that's the kind of dad and brother and person I want to be.
151
Do we have to go?
152
Yeah, in the Bible, it talks about loving your neighbor as yourself.
153
And so I think as a person who appreciates when people honor me,
154
I want to do my best to make people feel honored as well.
155
can you uh say a quick prayer before we bounce love to god thank you
156
so much for the privilege
157
and honor is to to have influence in anyone's life thank you for the platform of leadership
158
and god it's such a sacred thing to justin and i
159
and we just thank you we're so privileged and
160
so honored to get to encourage people
161
and just i just think of people right now god you
162
know people who are watching this who are in really really difficult situations who are going through
163
so much pain and loss and confusion.
164
God, we pray you'd be near to them.
165
They'd sense your love, your grace, and your goodness.
166
Lord, your reality in their room, in their space, wherever they are right now in the world.
167
Bless the rest of our minutes and our days together.
168
Thank you for your favor and protection over Justin and Haley.
169
Thank you for their leadership in life.
170
In Jesus' name, amen.
171
Thank you.
172
Love you.
173
I love you so much.
174
Okay, talk to you.
175
Love you, Hales.
176
Peace.
177
Thank you.
