Hi, my name is Bruno and I work as a senior engineering manager at Agoda.

So my journey here started back in 2016 as a back-end engineer in tech search team.

And now I'm a senior engineering manager leading a few organizations like accommodation, search and pricing, as well as white labels.

For the role that we are heading for, it's a back-end engineer.

And what we're looking for is like brilliant engineers willing to

use technology on the deepest possible level to solve complex problems and make our organization thrive.

Engineers working at Agoda may expect a very dynamic and fast-paced environment.

So different teams have different natures of problems to solve, but you can majorly split these into like main different types.

You have platform teams and horizontal teams.

Engineers being part of platform team not only need to build scalable, highly scalable applications that can serve like a huge amount of traffic that we are exposed to,

but also made sure that the code is simple enough to be contributed by many horizontal teams across the company.

As part of a horizontal team on the other side, you don't have this in-depth exposure in terms of the scalability,

but you have a very broad exposure in terms of all the systems that we have in Agoda, which makes you have a very good end-to-end understanding of what we do

and then can contribute and create immediate impact with great features that you push to production.

So to put some numbers in perspective, So for price calculation system, for example, we handle 20 million price calculations every single second.

With such scale, you can imagine that there is no out-of-the-box solution that can be applied.

Even simple strategies like auto-scaling or retries or any other strategy cannot just be used out-of-the-box.

With this, engineers need to go to the deepest level of technology to make the right choices

and build an architecture that can scale for the future.

When I think about like the reason why I work in this company

and what excites me the most in the database I can think mostly about three things,

how diverse data-driven and technology-focused this organization is.

So when you think about diversity, imagine what it is to work with almost 100 different nationalities under the same roof.

The amount of different perspectives that all of these people bring to the problem is something that you cannot find easily somewhere.

Now, when it comes to data-driven technology-focused, everything here can be represented by data by data.

So our hypothesis, we use data to back them, as well as getting enough insights for new hypotheses to come up.

Which means there is no such thing as titles when it comes to give great ideas that can materialize in great features.

When you talk about technology focused, it's not using technology just for the sake of using it.

It's by using innovation and using the newest possible technologies on what the best they can serve us for.
