If you're not hearing back after a resume drop, that means your resume sucks.
2
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.
3
Today, we are gonna be talking about how to land your dream job out of undergrad
4
or if you're earlier in your career, but honestly, making a career pivot or generally trying to look for your dream job.
5
I have some of my best unconventional, maybe conventional tips that will help you, especially in this job economy, land your next dream job.
6
If you're new, I'm Angelica.
7
I make content about being a corporate girly in tech across my socials, giving you my unfiltered, honest advice on how to break through
8
and build your career before i even go into tips i
9
want to talk about how there's no such thing as a dream job
10
and i say this as someone who objectively has two dream
11
jobs right i work in marketing by day at youtube google
12
and i've worked there since right out of new grad
13
and my five to nine
14
or my other side hustle i am a full -time pretty much content creator
15
and i'm really lucky i get to experience what it's like
16
being a creator the opportunities the connections the monetary like all
17
of it my dream life i'm here to tell you there is no such thing as a dream job
18
because we do not dream of labor every job is going to have its pros
19
and cons and so the quicker you de -romanticize
20
or over glamorize a specific job or industry
21
and remind yourself the purpose of a job is to pay your bills
22
and help finance your life or take you from point a to point b
23
and not every job you have is going to fulfill like all the buckets whether it's the right pay
24
or the right work or the right you know people
25
or all that stuff like there is no job
26
that fulfills all those buckets all at once
27
because then it wouldn't be a job so just a little reminder
28
that being said my first tip if you want to get into an extraordinary
29
or super difficult field or career you are going to have to do some extraordinary
30
and unique things to break into very competitive jobs
31
or fields right like dream jobs are supposed to be dream jobs
32
because not everybody can have them but i believe you can have them
33
because if i can get them you can definitely get it too
34
but knowing you have to think outside the box go bigger
35
be creative just being ordinary Isn't always going to help you land your dream opportunities.
36
So be prepared to have that expectation And
37
that means maybe it's baby steps at a time It's not
38
going to happen overnight whether you want to build your resume
39
with your own experience startups side hustles Whatever it is get an extraordinary special, you know rare job
40
that pays well blah blah blah blah You're also going to need to put in
41
that same level of effort for 99 % of people unless you're a nepo baby
42
But you get what i'm talking about number two
43
If you are not hearing back after you drop your resume on some sort of application or portal, that means your resume sucks.
44
And I'm not saying you suck.
45
I'm just saying you are not packaging up your experiences
46
and your skills in a way that a computer or a software or an AI is reading it.
47
And it's going to flag you as a possible candidate before they share it over to a recruiter or a hiring manager.
48
Now there are so many different chat AI boxes, resume tools where you can take the listing of your exact job.
49
Or you can copy and paste everything inside the job listing and then you upload your resume and ask, hey, I want this job, take a look at my resume,
50
what should I add or tweak or enhance to be a better fit
51
and increase my chances of getting picked up by the system?
52
There's so many different things, whether it's Gemini or ChatGPT or even LinkedIn Premium
53
that has the built -in way that you can just ask them to check how qualified you are.
54
Literally, ask the computer to figure out how you can get past a computer.
55
There's so many qualified applications.
56
The internet is great
57
because it's made the whole job application process very democratized like before you had to like mail in your resume and such, but now anyone can apply,
58
but that also means so many more people are applying. So, and try to tailor your resume every time a little bit for each application so you can work smarter and not harder.
59
I always remind people, a resume is not just a bunch of filler words.
60
Every bullet point should have a purpose.
61
So it should tell what you did, how you did it and what the results were.
62
That story arc plus data -driven storytelling, impact, skills you apply, technical software, technical terms, As much as you can,
63
put it in each bullet point and you want to try to reach the end of the line.
64
Also, fill up the whole page.
65
You want to add more bullet points to the ones that are more recent experiences.
66
And for your previous experiences or your older ones, you want to add fewer ones.
67
That way, you can really prioritize where the eyes will go.
68
And once it gets past the computer, there is science and data behind that physical human beings will read your resume, will read in an F pattern.
69
So try to keep all your important things in that F formation at the top and then all the sides as well.
70
That is their eyeballs of how they will skim.
71
If you are looking for your job or your dream job, you do not want to be shy about it.
72
I know people are like, oh, I want to be demure and I don't want evil eye.
73
I think in this economy, the louder you are and humble bragging you are, whether that's on TikTok or LinkedIn or wherever you can share your experience,
74
the more attention you're going to get from hiring managers
75
and recruiters because so many people are getting new jobs off of just posting their work online.
76
Obviously, LinkedIn is going to be your best friend, but you could specifically make this process smarter by not just adding people you know
77
or want to connect with
78
but search up the phrase I'm hiring plus in quotes the other quotes a specific word of your field
79
or even just I'm a recruiter I'm whatever it is it will find every post of a recruiter hiring managers saying, hey, I'm hiring for this industry.
80
That way, you know exactly who is hiring and these are real jobs.
81
There's a lot of ghost jobs right now online.
82
I don't know if it's just like way for companies to get data or they're just outdated, whatever it is.
83
A lot of teams and managers and recruiters are posting that exact phrase.
84
I'm hiring, I'm looking for, or, you know, resumes, referrals.
85
You can search for keywords and post
86
and then make sure you apply follow up with this person comment
87
and or dm them saying hey i applied
88
that way you have actually a personal connection
89
when you apply for this role obviously try to get a referral to apply to this job
90
which is a specialized invite to come apply for the company
91
which will help your chances with the application process at least get looked at
92
but in this day and age everybody has a referral
93
and i feel like a referral no longer helps as much as it used to
94
so i think it's actually more important
95
that you communicate exactly with who is hiring or at least you let them know that you applied.
96
If you want a new job and you work in social media marketing, you better be posting your work, talk on camera, edit, portfolio examples on LinkedIn,
97
Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, anywhere where people could be possibly scrolling because everybody likes to scroll.
98
You never know how you're going to be discovered
99
because I have friends who they posted their work online
100
and they got reached out by different brands or companies to be hired as full -time employees.
101
So you never know where your next job is coming from.
102
You need to be loud if you want an opportunity or make that opportunity for yourself.
103
Like if you can't even put it into the universe, how is
104
that opportunity supposed to come find you next is a little bit of like a step back of
105
if you can't land your dream job immediately or
106
if it's really hard to break into company a company a employs other smaller vendors agencies
107
or like staffing agencies to help support them in things they do right like
108
so whether you're a web designer
109
or you want to go into event planning they don't use
110
every single person from their in -house company they outsource a lot of that work
111
so it is a really great idea to then work instead
112
of the first company there's like a second tier of bubble companies
113
that that company works with that you can apply to so
114
that way you can build the experience of having company a your dream company on your resume as experience
115
but you are working at an agency or third -party vendor
116
or as freelance you can gain the experience as
117
if you were working at company a
118
but you have some other flexibilities you get to you can work on projects then you can take
119
that experience and either apply to similar companies as company a
120
or eventually when company a opens up jobs
121
and opportunities they already know you the teams have already worked with you
122
so you can vocalize that you're interested
123
or sometimes they might be like you might be a great fit you should come work in house
124
and at that time you can decide whether you want to even do
125
that or not but i know so many friends
126
that have been able to get full -time job opportunities at
127
their dream company by first working at the secondary like tier of companies
128
that work often with their dream company
129
that makes sense at the end of the day it is better to be employed than not employed
130
and you get to work alongside and learn a lot about
131
that dream industry or dream company even
132
if it's not as specifically on your resume title as your position
133
but you can add all that experience as client experience on your resume
134
and every single big company in the world uses an agency
135
or third -party vendors freelancers to help them with their work there is no single company
136
that does everything in -house it's just not possible there is
137
always work for you to do even with your dream companies even
138
if you don't work at your dream company
139
and lastly in this very tough job economy a lot of
140
people i know who have been able to get new jobs
141
or new dream opportunities it did come through relationships
142
and people like i mentioned before there's
143
so many ghost jobs right now meaning sometimes they're real sometimes they're not real listings it can get very confusing
144
and just the sheer number of very qualified applications applicants layoffs happening in very competitive industries like tech
145
or media or consulting like whatever it is a lot of very highly qualified people are now
146
Unemployed looking for a job as well and at the end of the day.
147
I hate to say it It's kind of like the rule of life.
148
There is no such thing as life is fair
149
So even people more underqualified than you
150
if they have the right connection They are going to be able to get a job
151
and that's not even a dig at them It's just like the reality of life
152
So I want you to really lean into your relationships network
153
with people build those connections There's a lot of like happy hour type networking events, especially in big cities So I highly recommend you attend those, but also creating, you know, virtual communities.
154
People on LinkedIn are actually very, you know, friendly to want to reach out, coffee chat.
155
Do not be shy, like I said, about telling people you are looking for an opportunity.
156
What you bring to the table, do not ramble.
157
And make sure you come to conversations being concise and short, but making sure it is going to be a mutually beneficial discussion of like what you can do, what you can offer, and how
158
if there isn't any opportunity in the other person's circle that you can be a fit for.
159
There might not always be an opportunity when you are looking for an opportunity
160
But you want to be top of mind when
161
that opportunity comes for the people you meet and have a good lasting impression So they're like, oh i'm looking to hire a new product manager They're gonna be like,
162
oh, you know who was a really good conversation I had six months ago so and so show up
163
even when you're maybe not looking for a job because always connecting is going to be key.
164
You want to make sure that you are always applying, always networking.
165
Never know when you're going to get frustrated with your current job
166
or a layoff happens or maybe you just want a new job randomly.
167
Very rarely is a timing of like, I want a new job and there is a new job and I get the new job opportunities synced.
168
So you always want to be looking.
169
Always be applying, always be networking and always be making connections.
170
It is a numbers game and it's kind of like speed dating.
171
Not everybody's going to like you and you're not going to like everybody.
172
That is okay.
173
It's more important that you have quality relationships that can go deeper
174
and making sure that there is trust and there's deep relationship When there is the right opportunity, they're gonna think of you I just buzzed through like five big things
175
and I know I talked a lot
176
But I do post a lot on my social media on
177
short form of like quick tips Definitely go follow me on
178
my other platforms at AngelicaSong everywhere Let me know below what other tips
179
and content you want to see next I'm gonna try to put out some more corporate vlogs, more sit -down videos But I know it's been a tough cycle
180
So I really want to put out the good vibes You got this and if it doesn't happen tomorrow, it will eventually happen because I believe in you.
181

이 레슨에 대해
"secrets about landing your dream job"으로 쉐도잉 기법을 사용해 영어를 연습합니다.
