1
You can't create a life you love by shaming yourself into becoming someone else.
2
I used to live that way in the past and let me tell you, it didn't feel great.
3
The thing is, most of us weren't really taught how to build a life we love.
4
We were taught how to be productive, how to be impressive, how to be busy.
5
But not how to feel grounded, aligned and connected to the life we're actually living.
6
So today, I'm going to show you what actually creates a life you love.
7
Before we start, I want to make a quick announcement and share something I've been working on for the last few months.
8
I've just launched my new private community called Enough, your space for gentle growth.
9

13
Alright, so the first component of creating a life you love is realizing
14
that you can approach goal -setting and change in from two different places.
15
Carrot vs. Stick.
16
The first place is what we call the stick approach, trying to improve your life by beating yourself up.
17
You don't like something about yourself, you shame yourself into changing it.
18
You push harder and harder because you feel like you're constantly not enough.
19
And honestly, this is the approach most of us grew up with.
20
This is how I used to view self -improvement for myself.
21
And yes, you can build habits and achieve goals this way.
22
rely on your willpower and then burn yourself out and do this all over again and you can still get results.
23
That's why a lot of us do it.
24
But the thing is with this approach nothing ever feels good enough
25
and often you end up achieving goals that lead you somewhere you never really wanted to go.
26
And now let's look at the second approach, something that is extremely foreign to most of us
27
look at it is it's when you love yourself enough
28
to change when you build goals from compassion not shame
29
when you show up for your habits
30
because they support what you like doing right now
31
and who you want to become this is the approach
32
that i want you to keep in mind
33
while creating a life you love showing up not
34
because i hate who i am but
35
because i love myself enough to commit to the life i want to build because real lasting change constantly,
36
when you stop nitpicking yourself and start supporting yourself no matter what.
37
And this is what I want you to think about more.
38
How can you approach designing your life from this carrot perspective, not this stick approach?
39
And for me, a big part of all of that is learning on purpose and protecting my energy.
40
And that's exactly where today's sponsor Cognify AI comes in.
41
Cognify is an actually remember what you learn and organize everything so you're not feeling overwhelmed.
42
Here's how I've been using it recently.
43
I can drop the key ideas into Cognify as notes.
44
It doesn't just store them, it helps you remember them up to 4x deeper with smart note -taking
45
and 7x deeper when you use their assessments and quizzes.
46
So it's not passive, it's active learning that sticks.
47
I use Cognify's projects and notes so everything is in one place.
48
Ideas, research, scripts, to -dos.
49
They have a focus mode that breaks your day into manageable chunks
50
so you're not trying to be on for 10 hours straight.
51
It helps you get into deep work without burning out.
52
And what I like most is that Cognify is not about outsourcing your entire brain to AI.
53
actually want to think.
54
It challenges you, it helps you, without making you outsource absolutely everything.
55
I honestly think having a tool like this makes the whole process of learning new things feel
56
so much more intentional and less chaotic.
57
If you want to try it, you can use my code CognifyVeronica or click the link in the description.
58
That gives you two months of Cognify Pro to really test it out and see if it fits into your routine.
59
Alrighty, so the next part of more play into your life.
60
For a very long time in my self -improvement and productivity journey, I treated myself as a robot.
61
I have to do this, I It has to be done, no questions asked.
62
And if something wasn't contributing to my productivity, I deemed it as useless.
63
Like, why should I spend my time on it if it's not connected to my productivity journey?
64
But the thing is, play, while being non -productive, is actually extremely important for us.
65
It's not just optional, it's a biological need.
66
Our brains are literally wired guide to finding the right habits or the right goals for you.
67
And here I really like asking myself this question.
68
If no one was watching, what would I actually want?
69
I put two things on my 2025 vision board that were connected to doing something that I deeply loved.
70
The first one is my handstand journey.
71
So learning a handstand.
72
That has been a very big goal for me in 2025 and I'm few seconds,
73
the goal was to just have fun and obviously learn proper alignment because I didn't want to hurt myself.
74
I thought setting a goal like learning handstands was a little bit silly.
75
Like, I'm not a kid anymore.
76
Like, why do I even want to do it?
77
But again, does it even matter to have a logical reason why you want to do something
78
if it makes you reconnect with your inner child,
79
after you allow yourself to try things that seem silly at first.
80
And so the second thing on my vision board
81
that has been connected to me doing something for me was doing a yoga teacher training.
82
Without looking at everyone else and thinking what do they want to do or maybe I'm gonna be like them, can I do it?
83
What do I want to do?
84
It doesn't matter what all of those other people are doing
85
training and getting my certificate has been one of the biggest decisions in 2025
86
and also like one of the most me decisions ever.
87
During that training, I was able to tap more into my nerd energy.
88
Something that I honestly really missed.
89
I really missed being a student, a person who's learning something new, taking tests and taking exams.
90
Now let's talk about this one exercise, has been extremely helpful when it comes to creating a life I love.
91
So one of the biggest misconceptions I see online right now is that you're constantly becoming.
92
You're always focused on building this best or better version of yourself.
93
Like you're never being yourself in the moment.
94
You're never enough as you are right now.
95
You're always upgrading.
96
You're always four.
97
This is why we get stuck living in the future, because we realize that our present lives are imperfect, but they aren't supposed to be.
98
So I read this book recently, it's called Designing Your Life.
99
I did like it, even though some of the parts felt a little bit dry to me.
100
That is why I would highly recommend the workbook from this book.
101
This workbook is truly, truly your life, there is an amazing quote that I really like
102
and I literally want to save it and like print it out and have it everywhere in my room.
103
It's rare that people sail beautifully straight through their beautiful lives, always looking beautiful.
104
I honestly love this quote because usually that's not what we see, right?
105
On the surface, on social media,
106
we think that everything and if it's not perfect, then you're failing.
107
Something is wrong with you.
108
If I were to choose one specific exercise from this workbook, I think it would be the good time journal.
109
Because it helps you focus on your life right now.
110
It helps you understand your energy and how to protect it best.
111
Here it gives you a lot of examples of how to do it and what all of these little meters mean.
112
Yes, you have to do it for around a month.
113
This is very, very important.
114
You have to log in all of your activities, everything that you do, all of the things that you spend your time on.
115
So basically, you have your engagement meter, if your engagement was low or high, maybe you were in the state of flow,
116
and also your energy, like whether you felt energized or drained.
117
And I promise you, if you do this exercise consistently for three weeks, you will know
118
have before because you can only manage your energy in effective ways
119
when you look for patterns and this exercise helps you look for patterns one thing
120
that wasn't obvious for me at all at the very beginning
121
when i just started doing this exercise is that when i work
122
if i can see my phone somewhere next to you know
123
my space my computer like even like you know my side vision if i can Like any little work task I do,
124
I'm always tempted to check my phone.
125
And so now all I do is I just leave my phone in another room
126
or I hide it somewhere so that I can't see it.
127
So that visually it's not somewhere around me.
128
Because a life you love is built on awareness.
129
And awareness comes when you pay attention to yourself.
130
So now finally let's look at these top three areas.
131
a life I love or not quite and I need to change something about them.
132
The first area is my relationship to myself.
133
We've already mentioned the treating yourself with a carrot or a stick and I have to mention here, carrots do include boundaries too.
134
Sometimes we all need to set some boundaries to protect ourselves and it doesn't always feel great in the moment.
135
Setting boundaries
136
area is my relationship with people around me my communication skills
137
again my boundaries am I able to express myself in a
138
kind way am I surrounding myself with people who uplift me who share my values
139
and the final big area is how I approach goal setting
140
because honestly your goals can be small they can be silly
141
but they are still enough you should still set those goals if they feel like they're deeply truly yours
142
They don't need to look impressive to everyone else it feels
143
so much better to achieve goals
144
that actually mean something to me than to spend months
145
or years chasing goals that were never mine to begin with
146
because you don't create a life you love by becoming someone
147
new every single month you create a life you love by finally falling in love with who you already are
148
so guys i think it's going to be it for today's video if you liked it Your likes,
149
your comments, all of that means so, so much to me.
150
One important thing that I always talk about in my YouTube videos is therapy
151
and how much it has helped me become more connected to myself.
152

About This Lesson

Ready to boost your English speaking skills while learning how to build a life you love? This lesson uses a heartfelt video to practice listening, vocabulary, and conversational flow—perfect for IELTS speaking practice and everyday fluency. You’ll learn to follow natural speech patterns, pick up common phrases, and even try shadow speak (repeating sentences aloud as you hear them) to mimic tone and rhythm. Let’s dive in!

Key Vocabulary & Phrases

  • Grounded: Feeling stable and connected to the present (e.g., "She stays grounded by meditating daily").
  • Aligned: In harmony with your values or goals (e.g., "His new job feels aligned with his passions").
  • Nitpicking: Criticizing small, unimportant details (e.g., "Stop nitpicking—your work is great!").

  • Compassion: Kindness toward oneself or others (e.g., "Approach mistakes with compassion, not shame").

Practice Tips

The video’s tone is warm and conversational, with a moderate speed—ideal for shadow speech practice. Here’s how to make the most of it:

  • Pause and repeat: Stop the video after 2-3 sentences, then say them aloud. Focus on matching the speaker’s calm rhythm and emphasis (e.g., "because real lasting change happens...").
  • Emphasize key words: Notice how the speaker stresses words like "love," "compassion," and "energy." Copying this will make your speech more natural and engaging—great for English speaking practice.
  • Learn in chunks: The video uses phrases like "shaming yourself into becoming" and "design your life from a place of." Repeat these as whole units to build fluency, not just single words.

Remember, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s progress. Use this video to connect language learning with self-growth, and you’ll build skills that last. Happy practicing!

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
