On 26 August, Vietnam's Television Department of International Broadcasting welcomed more than 40 overseas

Vietnamese language teachers attending a 2026 Vietnamese Teaching Methodology training course in Hanoi.

And this is a meaningful gathering indeed.

And beyond exchanging teaching experiences, the teachers also explored how television content

and stories from Vietnam can become more engaging learning materials for Vietnamese communities abroad

and this could help bring the language and culture closer to younger generations overseas.

Born in Poland, 24-year-old Đạo Cạnh Chi was encouraged from an early age by her father, a Vietnamese educator, to pursue a career in teaching.

Their support inspired Chi to teach Vietnamese and help preserve the language for younger generations living abroad.

At this meeting, I heard teachers share their stories and the challenges of teaching Vietnamese abroad.

Although they come from different parts of the world, they share the same love for the language.

This has inspired me to teach Vietnamese to children in Poland.

Before moving to Malaysia, Nguyễn Thị Lên was a teacher in Vietnam.

For over a decade, she had taught Vietnamese to the local community.

At the meeting, she and other teachers shared with first-hand experiences

and ideas to make televised Vietnamese lessons more relevant to learners in different countries.

The main challenges are motivating children abroad to learn Vietnamese and creating an environment where they can use it.

Addressing both will help them enjoy learning and retain the language.

We are ready to work with VTV4 on programs that better meet the learning needs of Vietnamese students overseas.

One of the biggest challenges in teaching Vietnamese abroad, especially in the Republic of Korea is changing the mindset of parents who fear being looked down on.

For teachers starting out, the first question should not be which curriculum to use, but how to change parents' perceptions.

Insights from teachers will have the Department of International Broadcasting tailored programs to learners' needs.

The meeting also offers an opportunity to connect with future contributors who understand their local communities, bringing more real-life perspectives into program production.

50 teachers bring diverse teaching approaches from around the world.

We see them as potential contributors to future programs.

As VTV4 undergoes reforms, we want overseas Vietnamese communities to become active participants in television production.

The meeting is expected to build lasting links between VTV4 and overseas Vietnamese language teachers by connecting classroom experience with televised lessons.

Vietnamese can be passed on more naturally and take root among generations born far from their homeland.
