3
bbclearningenglish.com OK Beth, I'm really excited about today's topic of conversation.
4
OK, how come?
5
Well, we're going to talk about clothes and fashion.
6
Do you like to keep up with fashion, Beth?
7
I would say not so much, but I try to think about what I wear and I try to not be old-fashioned.
8
OK.
9
What about you?
10
I am interested in what I wear, but I don't spend a lot of money or time choosing stuff.
11
Okay.
12
Do you like to buy new clothes?
13
Yeah.
14
I don't do it very often, but I like to.
15
I like to make the right choice.
16
Okay.
17
Yeah, I've started getting quite a few of my clothes second hand,
18
but online, so there's so much choice and I can choose what I like.
19
And as long as it's still quite new and it's not really used and falling apart, then I feel like I'm making a good fashion choice.
20
So Beth, what kind of outfits do you like to wear?
21
Well, I am quite casual in my clothes choices, I think, so I really like to wear trainers,
22
maybe jeans or some loose trousers.
23
I don't really like anything tight-fitting,
24
I just want to be comfortable and I think I probably choose being comfortable over being fashionable.
25
What about you?
26
Yeah, it depends.
27
Because I'm old...
28
You're not that old, but carry on.
29
Because I'm old, well, I like to be smart sometimes, it depends on the occasion, but I also like to be casual.
30
So I like trainers, and I spend a lot of time choosing trainers, but not very often.
31
So Neil, because you said you're old, I imagine that you don't really follow trends that much?
32
Yeah, I don't try to wear the latest trends
33
because I think it looks silly for somebody my age to try to look too young.
34
but maybe general trends, like the type of jeans people wear during certain eras.
35
Ah, I know what you mean.
36
So, a lot of people now say that skinny jeans in the UK are not that fashionable,
37
so they might wear some baggy jeans if that is a trend.
38
I have to say I'm not very on it with fashion trends.
39
So Beth, is there any item of clothing that you would really like to buy that you don't have?
40
Actually yes, because at the moment we're getting into the winter here in the UK
41
and I love the colour green and I don't have a green woolly hat
42
and I love a woolly hat in the winter
43
and I want a green one so I'm going to be looking out for one of those in the next few weeks.
44
OK, let's recap the vocabulary that we used during the conversation.
45
We had trends, new and popular clothing choices.
46
And we had fashionable, something that is popular now.
47
And we had old-fashioned, which means something that is not fashionable anymore.
48
We had casual, which is used to describe clothes that are comfortable and practical.
49
And smart, used to describe clothes that are formal and professional.
