What happens if we tie all the planets together?

First, let's line them all up on one side of the Sun.

Next, we'll need a 4 .5 billion kilometer long rope.

But planets orbit the Sun at very different speeds.

The inner planets sprint around the Sun, and the outer planets crawl.

When we tie them all together, massive planets like Jupiter act like anchors, slowing fast inner planets down and yanking slow outer planets forwards.

The next problem we have to tackle is that planets also spin.

Venus spins backwards, and Uranus spins sideways, so we can't simply tie them together.

The only way to avoid the rope twisting and knotting is to decouple the rope from the planet's spin.

So, let's attach each planet to the rope like a bauble with a rotating hook, so they don't wind the rope into planet -sized balls of yarn.

Even if we fix this, if the planets reach opposite sides of the Sun, the rope will pass through it, heat up to millions of degrees, and turn into plasma.
