1
Let's talk about how I manage my time and how you can too.
2
And if you want to talk credentials, I've been working since I was like 12.
3
So between that, school, social life, and also having time for myself, I think I know a thing or two about managing my time.
4
I've been busy.
5
But among all this, I would say that how you manage your time is deeply personal.
6
There are a lot of factors into how someone might manage their time.
7
And it's definitely not a one size fits all.
8
So take what applies and leave what doesn't.
9
Okay, let's get into it.
10
The first thing you need to know is understand how long it actually takes to do something.
11
So for example, working might provide you with clear -cut hours like a 9 to 5, but you also have to factor in the commute,
12
how long it takes for you to get ready, or the amount of rest that you might need after work.
13
In this case, a 9 to 5 is more like an 8 to 6, which is horrendous by the way.
14
So I used to work 8 .30 to 5 and since I valued my morning so much,
15
I would wake up early at like 6 just to make sure that I could fit in a walk,
16
my coffee, some creative work before I started work.
17
When I worked at a cafe and I was shifted the opening hours, I would actually go in early,
18
set up shop, do a little bit of journaling, and then get started at work.
19
And this worked out for me because I liked to wake up early anyway.
20
I'm a bit of a morning bird, an early bird.
21
And so once you understand how much time something actually takes,
22
then you can start to work around it and find solutions to start reclaiming your time back.
23
So if you wanted more time in the morning like me, shorten the amount of time it gets ready, wake up earlier, start your day earlier,
24
get to work earlier, just be earlier, prep things, pack your bag the night before, plan your outfit the night before,
25
take advantage of the free time that you do have to get ahead
26
and speed up processes that you don't really care about
27
so you can spend more time on the things that you do care about.
28
Right, so once you start to understand how things start to fit in your day and the time that they take up,
29
then you can start to like hack the system a little bit.
30
Okay, cool.
31
So now we understand how much time things actually take in our day.
32
Now we need to prioritize.
33
If you have many goals to meet and you are ambitious, but you don't want to burn out, then you have to prioritize your goals.
34
You need to ask yourself, what do you actually want to achieve the most?
35
Like the number one thing, okay?
36
It can't be like three different things at once.
37
Otherwise, you're gonna burn out, girl.
38
For example, currently, my priorities include growing my creative career, which includes YouTube, Instagram, and Substack.
39
So if you'd like to support my work and see a girl get the bag,
40
please consider subscribing, liking, and commenting and following me on my platforms
41
so that I can make more content and videos that motivate you.
42
But anyway, another goal I have is to become more fit and athletic.
43
Between my creative career and my athletic journey, I am prioritizing 80 % of my brain to go towards
44
those goals everything else gets 20 % for the everything else
45
that gets 20 % I will slot in my goals here
46
and there and everywhere I find an in -between so
47
that could be on the train waiting for friends to arrive
48
if I'm going to meet them for dinner most of the time I'm the friend
49
that gets there early so I'm usually waiting on other people
50
so this is like literally the perfect time for me to whip out my book
51
and look performative except in this case I'm actually reading most of the time most of the time.
52
Sometimes I just want my friend to arrive
53
and take a candid pic of me because I look so good in that moment.
54
But yeah, literally there's so many in -between moments
55
that you could slot in a goal or slot in a task that you wanted to do.
56
So think about all the times that you're just kind of like standing there waiting around.
57
Try and see if you can slot in some of your goals in those in -betweens.
58
Okay, so this next tip will honestly save you so much time and that's to make decisions and stick to them.
59
Don't let other people sway your decisions.
60
Say no if you have to.
61
Sometimes you will be persuaded to relax on your schedule and to compromise your time.
62
Honestly, it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it or not.
63
But if you need to say no, don't feel guilty, girl.
64
You made a decision in the best interest of yourself.
65
So if you're going to compromise on it, it's going to affect your decisions later on in the road.
66
Another thing about decisions is
67
that you want to get into the habit of doing things immediately
68
and to cut down on as much decision making as you can.
69
There's a lot of times where we stand there thinking about what our next move is going to be
70
and that honestly can waste a lot of time.
71
So try to do a lot of your decision making beforehand
72
when you have free time and that will save you a lot of time down the road.
73
Getting into the habit of doing things immediately will also save you a lot of time
74
because if you're thinking about doing something, you might as well just do it right away.
75
All this thinking is taking so much of your time so just get rid of the thinking and do it girl.
76
This next tip is something
77
that I've had to learn a lot over the course of my life
78
and that's knowing what is worth my time and energy.
79
As I get older, I am getting really discerning about what is worth my time and energy.
80
When I was younger, I mean I'm still young, but like when I was younger,
81
I was really open and down for anything and I would have the energy to bounce back.
82
But now that I'm older, I'm like, ooh, some things I just cannot do without it sacrificing my next day.
83
So for example, going out late at night, drinking, partying.
84
Although I do love to have fun, guys.
85
Don't get me wrong.
86
I love to have fun.
87
I love to laugh.
88
I love to have fun.
89
But sometimes laughing too much and having too much fun will cost me my tomorrow.
90
So I have to be really discerning about what is worth it for me and what will not derail my routine.
91
So yeah, not everything is worth your time and energy and that can mean people, activities.
92
And so 80 % of the time, if I have commitments to myself,
93
I will usually say no to plans or things that will compromise my commitments.
94
But I do love a 20 % buffer that allows me to be spontaneous and have fun.
95
I'm high key, a type B person forced to be type A.
96
And so low key, this is how I balance the books.
97
Otherwise, I might crash out.
98
That's just me though, that's just me.
99
I love a good 80 -20.
100
But for you, maybe that's 50 -50, maybe that's 60 -40.
101
I don't know.
102
It's really all up to you.
103
You need to know how you value your energy and your time.
104
So yeah, not everything is worth your time and energy.
105
So you got to figure out what you value and see how this fits into your life and your commitments.
106
So just for fun, let's do like a quick segment of deal
107
or no deal where I give you a situation and you decide whether it's worth it for you or not.
108
There is no right or wrong answer to this it's just really up to you and for you to get thinking about,
109
you know, how to manage your time.
110
So your friends are inviting you out on a Thursday night and it's 8 30 p .m.
111
You've set a strict schedule of a 10 p .m bedtime and you have planned to do some work in the morning.
112
Deal or no deal?
113
And that's for you to figure out.
114
For me personally, it kind of depends on who is inviting me out
115
if I've seen them in a while or if I've seen them recently.
116
But usually it would be a no deal for me because I really value my sleep.
117
And these days my sleep is very sensitive.
118
I know, so sad.
119
The way that I've been navigating that is by having a very, very strict schedule.
120
Like I am in bed by 8 .30 and I am falling asleep by 9 .30, 10.
121
Yeah, my sleep hygiene is super important to me.
122
And if there is something spontaneous that is going to compromise that and it's not a Friday night, sorry girl, it's no deal.
123
I'll see you another time.
124
But that doesn't mean that I won't see my friend.
125
I'll just reschedule or find another way to slot them in.
126
The next thing I want to talk about is being efficient.
127
To have more time, you need to make more time.
128
And that means you have to be efficient, which means using the least amount of time to do something.
129
I'm sure you guys have already heard of these things, but actions that support being efficient include habit stacking, having routines, being good at something,
130
automating it, and then setting it so that you forget about it, paying attention, getting rid of distractions,
131
you know, your phone being next to you put in the other room, being in a quiet room so that you're not being distracted by noise.
132
A two -hour work session might be a one -hour work session if you're spending the other hour scrolling reels.
133
So get rid of the distractions or experiment with your working blocks.
134
See what kind of working style is the most productive for you.
135
Resting is also really efficient because you can't work an overworked brain and have backups.
136
If you really can't get yourself to be productive on the thing that you're focusing on at the moment,
137
what else is on your to -do list?
138
Swap it out.
139
If you can't do any work in the moment, go wash the dishes.
140
Do you know what I mean?
141
I'm sure if you have a million things on your to -do list, you can find backups for each one if you find
142
that you can't really do the one that you're working on at the moment.
143
One other tip that I have for being efficient with your time is setting a minimum
144
and a maximum amount of time that you want to work on something.
145
The minimum will help you work for an acceptable amount of time that you need to get started.
146
It really helps if you've been avoiding the work or really don't want to do something.
147
And this should be an amount of time that is palatable for you.
148
Like 15 minutes, 10 minutes, even 5 minutes.
149
And the maximum will make sure that you don't overdo it and let it bleed into the rest of your day.
150
In case you have other things that you need to work on.
151
I really like this method and I've relied on it a lot.
152
The next tip I have is to plan ahead.
153
Yeah, know what you need to do and map it out.
154
This is the important part you need to map it out.
155
It can't just stay in your bread, honey.
156
Bread, honey.
157
It just, it can't just stay in your brain, honey.
158
You need to like take it out of your brain and put it onto paper or something that you can see tangibly.
159
Every Sunday, I'll map out what I need to do for the week and the tasks that I need to do daily.
160
So this way, I don't spend time thinking about what I want to do for the day.
161
I just have to do what I wrote down already on my to -do list.
162
Every end of the month, I'll jot down what I want to achieve for the month and any major events that are going on.
163
I won't bore you guys with the details, but my system is essentially Google Calendar for events, appointments, and my monthly outlook.
164
Notion for my detailed day -to -day and my weekly tasks.
165
And that's pretty much it.
166
My system is very simple and
167
that brings me to my next tip is to spend less time maintaining the system and just get the system going.
168
If you have trouble managing your time but you are an aspirational to -doer, you need to have a basic ass system.
169
And so the reason why I have such a basic ass system is
170
because I need to spend more time doing and less time maintaining.
171
Right now, I'm in a season of my life where I need to create
172
and produce a lot and that means I have to execute.
173
But I can't do that if I'm changing the layout of my notion every single week.
174
And so the simplest systems are the ones that work for me.
175
My meals are super simple.
176
My organization setup is simple.
177
My routines are simple.
178
And this is how I'm able to stack so much on top of each other.
179
My systems are simple, but my capacity is large.
180
And so simple looks different for everybody.
181
But my version of simple is just minimalist, I guess.
182
And so my last question for you guys is,
183
is it time that you don't have or is it that you don't want to figure it out?
184
And that's tea.
185
That's T, clock tube.
186
Okay guys, thanks for watching so much and I'll see you in the next video.
187
Bye!
