1
Come and join me for a few minutes in a practice that I call,
2
What Will I Be Proudest of Looking Back on My Life?
3
Settle wherever you are in whatever position is comfortable.
4
You can let your eyes close or simply soften your gaze toward whatever is in front of you.
5
Take one deep breath and let whatever you were doing a moment ago set itself down.
6
There's nowhere else you need to be right now.
7
Take another deep breath, a little slower.
8
Feel the weight of your body where it rests, your feet on the floor,
9
your hands in your lap, or on the armrest of your chair.
10
Take one more breath, slower still.
11
Let your shoulders drop.
12
Let your jaw relax.
13
Feel yourself arriving here.
14
And now when you feel ready, imagine yourself at age 80, looking back over your whole life.
15
A friend or a close family member asks you with genuine curiosity, what are you proudest of?
16
Don't answer yet.
17
Notice how the body reacts.
18
the question just sit for a moment and notice what the mind offers first by way of an answer.
19
For many of us what might arrive first is a list of achievements,
20
Things that are visible to others that might fill you with pride and a sense of accomplishment.
21
If it arises, let the list of accomplishments be there and observe how how it makes you feel inside.
22
Now ask the question again more slowly.
23
What would I most want to be proud of at the end of my life?
24
Not what you think you ought to answer, but what you would really want to be true.
25
See if the answer changes.
26
Notice what comes up.
27
Suppose whether your answer landed somewhere in the body.
28
Maybe it's brought a particular person to mind or a particular stretch of your life.
29
Perhaps it hasn't and that's fine too.
30
If something is still there, stay with it a moment longer.
31
Now, gently let that 80-year-old go and come back to today,
32
to this week, and ask,
33
whatever it was that I could picture being proud of, what would a version of that look like today?
34
Not the whole of it, but one thing that I could actually do.
35
Something maybe the size of a phone call or 10 minutes without the phone in the room,
36
one question asked and the answer actually listened to.
37
Let one specific thing come to mind and set an intention to put that thought into action.
38
If nothing comes to mind, that's fine.
39
The question can keep working on its own for a while.
40
And now, when you're ready, gently return to the rest of your day.
41
Thank you.

比如说到“what are you proudest of?”
