Sometimes I really want to say no to a job.

This was one of those times.

The customer asked me straight up if I wanted to do it, and honestly, I told him no. So I quoted him $2,000 hoping he'd walk, but he didn't even flinch.

Decades old, but hasn't been on his hand in over 10 years.

It needed to go up two full sizes.

The problem was he wanted it seamless.

He didn't even think it was possible until one of my videos showed up in his feed.

That's when he decided I'm the guy for the job.

Normally I'm happy to carve a design from solid metal, But the braids on this ring are so open and full of voids that carving would never match.

So I cut the ring, stretched it open, and soldered in a solid block of white gold.

Then I spent an hour carving out a flat section before I even touched any wires.

Some jewelers spend their entire careers doing wire work, but I ain't one of them.

This was uncharted territory for me.

I spun up the twists in a power drill.

It went pretty smooth, but the braids took much thicker wire.

I held them in place with a vise, bent them with pliers, and hammered down each one to get them as tight as possible.

Then I sent it through the rolling mill, curved it in my ring bender, and spent a while figuring out where to cut it so it lines up evenly.

Oh, and these are all my failed attempts.

Real gold, by the way.

I placed them in and laser welded the three sections from the top.

The laser does a great job, but I still need solder to fill in the hard-to-reach crevices.

So I coated everything with whiteout.

It acts as a heat shield thanks to the titanium dioxide.

Now the solder has nowhere else to go but down into the gaps.

All that was left was cleaning up the welds, trimming the side rails, and polishing the ring inside and out.

The ultrasonic gets rid of the demon energy.

Even though I never wanted this job, I got to learn something new, and I'm pretty thrilled that the seams are about as invisible as they can get.

The ring's sitting right at 11 and 3 quarters now, and it better fit perfectly, because I do not want to do this again.
