This is an extraordinary place, a place where people come to be inspired, a place to celebrate excellence,
9
and that is precisely what we're going to do this evening, in person.

Isn't it nice to be together with each other?
11
A bit strange to get dressed up.

14
For over a century, the Art Gallery of Ontario has operated on land that is Michi Saugik Nishinaabe territory.
15
It's governed by Treaty 13 between the Mississauga of the New Credit and the Canadian government.
16
This land has also been occupied by the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat Confederacies, and the land continues to be home to many First Nations
17
Inuit and Métis people and in this great tradition of gathering on this land we converge once more this evening.
18
These have, as Margaret said, been a difficult few years, for all of us certainly, but for journalism as well.
19
And the importance of fact -based journalism has never been more urgent.
20
And there was a time not too long ago, I'm old enough to remember that time, when saying that kind of thing was not controversial.
21
Journalists are being attacked, undermined, harassed, threatened, and worse, Hear.
22
and around the world.
23
When it comes to where we get our news, we have more choices than ever before.
24
And yet, with those choices, misinformation, disinformation, and worse, continues to spread threatening to erode our democracy, in our profession.
25
The Canadian Journalism Foundation believes that as journalism goes, so goes democracy.
26
And so just as democracy suddenly seems less guaranteed than it once was, the notion of a free press is also being threatened.
27
In these times, especially in these times, The role of the journalist,
28
the responsibility of the journalist to hold those in power accountable, to equip our constituents with facts.
29
to shine a light into darkness has never been more vital.
30
Journalists serve our communities, we educate our consumers, we make the world a more just place.

And you in this room and our colleagues across the country and right around the world,
32
continue to do that work every single day under increasingly difficult circumstances And for that, we are grateful.
33
Tonight, we honor those who in the past year have delivered the defining stories on the issues of our time, journalists who have dug deeper,
34
Journalists who found a trail where none was thought to have existed
35

36
We will honour those legends, we will recognise future icons, the people that we will come to celebrate in years ahead, and we will celebrate the work that we proudly do.

Empfohlenes Video

  • "shine a light into darkness" – "Licht in die Dunkelheit bringen" (metaphorisch für Aufklärung)
  • "carbon-neutral evening" – "kohlenstoffneutraler Abend" (aktuell in nachhaltigen Veranstaltungen)
  • "dig deeper" – "tiefer graben" (umfassende Recherche beschreiben)
  • "set the stage for" – "die Bühne bereiten für" (übergreifend für Vorbereitungen)

Deine Shadowing-Herausforderung

Konzentriere dich auf Phrasen wie "It's nice to be around other people" oder "the importance of fact-based journalism". Wiederhole dies 3–5 Mal.
