Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala states in the Holy Quran In Surah Al -Shuraa,
15
Illuminate your hearts and minds with a loud salawat Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa ala Muhammad
17
Respected brothers and sisters, As -salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
18
As we embrace the sorrowful crescent of the month of Muharram I extend to you my sincerest condolences
19
On the tragic martyrdom of Imam Al -Husayn sallallahu alayhi
20
On these nights we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala To open our hearts
21
For the legacy of Al -Imam Al -Hussain
22
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala To illuminate our hearts
23
and minds With the light of Abi Abdullah Al -Hussain
24
And we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala To grant us
25
the shafa 'ah The intercession of Al -Imam Al -Hussain in this world and on the Day of Judgment.
26
The beauty of the legacy of Imam Hussain lies in its immense power of motivation.
27
The legacy of Imam Hussain motivates us to do good, to stand up for justice.
28
It motivates us to worship Allah,
29
to obey Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala and it motivates us to keep away from sins
30
the legacy of Imam Hussain alayhi salam is about protecting our
31
nafs from disobeying Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala what is it
32
that happened during the time of Imam Hussain that led tens of thousands of people to fight him
33
Those who came to Karbala to fight the Imam of their time You think they did not know who Imam Hussain was?
34
They had any doubts about his identity, about his lineage, about what he stood for?
35
They knew very well whom they were fighting
36
But what emboldened them and gave them the audacity to fight was that they became comfortable with sinning.
37
Sinning became very normal for them.
38
And once we develop a habit of feeling comfortable with sins, they become second nature.
39
We don't care when we sin.
40
That's when we invite the shaitan to overpower us.
41
This is exactly what Imam Hussain Alayhi Salaam said On the day of Ashura
42
When he explained Why his enemies were
43
fighting him These people are a people Whose
44
stomachs have been filled with haram Meaning their income is not lawful They stand with injustice,
45
they sin left and right.
46
What was the consequence of that?
47
فَاسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهُمُ الشَّيْطَانِ Shaitan overpowered them, he surrounded them.
48
وَأَنْسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ الرَّحْمَانِ He made them forget their Lord, the compassionate Rahman.
49
They had no connection with.
50
On the day of Ashura, they had no connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala And hence,
51
they were responsible for the biggest tragedy that this planet has ever faced This is what sins do Sins are destructive
52
Sins darken our souls, they darken our spiritual heart Sins create barriers between us and our creator
53
Sins deflate us from the desire to worship Allah
54
From the desire to stand up for justice From the desire to do good
55
There are many negative consequences to sins Now this is not
56
aimed at making you lose hope in the mercy of Allah
57
subhanahu wa ta 'ala We believe in the power of repentance In the mercy of Allah
58
But we need to know the consequences of sins
59
One of the consequences of sins Is
60
that it reduces your sustenance A hadith from Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib States
61
When a person sins That causes a reduction In his sustenance In his rizq And rizq is quality of life
62
You may have money
63
But that money does not give you peace of mind That money has no barakah in it
64
You'll spend that money in haram It will not help you You'll feel lonely
65
and depressed There's no barakah in your money And we've seen People in society They could be millionaires,
66
billionaires, famous singers But they have the highest rates of depression Suicide, anxiety, loneliness Why?
67
Because they don't have that quality sustenance One of the effect of sins Is
68
that it reduces the quality of the rizq Of the sustenance that we have
69
The second consequence Negative effect of sins Is that it brings about calamities in our lives
70
According to one hadith from Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib He explains that when we sin
71
Tragedies afflict us The Imam gives even simple examples You scratch your skin You bleed,
72
you trip, you fall A tragedy happens
73
Most of that is because of our mistakes and sins
74
And then Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Quotes verse 30 of Surah Al -Shura وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِن مُصِيبَةٍ إِلَّا بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ
75
The tragedies that befall you It's because of what your hands have done Because of your sins,
76
because of your mistakes Most of the problems that we have in this world Whether wars,
77
injustice, poverty, problems, issues Is because of what?
78
Because of our mistakes Because of our sins Because we insist on injustice
79
Next time I'm tempted to commit a sin I need to
80
keep this in mind This sin I'm about to make Could bring a tragedy in my life Do I really want that?
81
It could hit me with a sickness, illness A loved one could suffer I could fail in some aspect of my life Do I really want that for myself?
82
That's the second consequence of sins The third consequence of sins Sins can bring premature death
83
According to one hadith From Al -Imam Al -Sadiq He states
84
People who die because of their sins Are more than people who die Because their time has come up Has expired
85
There's an expiration date on every human being Allah has not given you a body
86
That has the capacity to age for centuries and millennia There's an expiration date on our bodies
87
But most of us don't reach that expiration date 10 years,
88
20 years, 30 years, 40 years earlier than the expiration date, we depart this world.
89
Why?
90
This hadith states because of sins.
91
That's one of the consequences of sins.
92
It shortens one's life.
93
Is that something that I want to bring about for myself?
94
Now, this does not mean that if someone dies young, it's because of their sins.
95
Sometimes Allah tries believers And Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala wants to expedite their return to Him
96
Many of our Imams were very young When they went back to Allah
97
when they were martyred Al -Imam Al -Jawad alayhi salam How old was he?
98
24, 25?
99
So if you hear someone died while they're young Don't quickly judge them
100
and say Oh it was because of their sins No, sometimes Allah wants to purify this person But generally speaking,
101
that's one of the consequences of sins The more we sin, the more we expedite our death
102
These are three common consequences of sins Now here comes the very important question Many of us were habitual sinners
103
Were addicted to many types of sins And we know it's wrong We know we need to stop
104
And many times we're trying genuinely to stop
105
But we simply can't I've been trying years
106
and years to stop these sins But I'm unable to do so How can I bring myself to stop sinning?
107
I can't help but sin In our discussion tonight
108
As we are being inspired by the legacy of Imam Hussain
109
a .s I will share with you some practical steps that help us stay away from sins.
110
At the end of the day, every sin you're able to tackle and protect yourself from, you're that much closer to Imam Hussain.
111
That's what our Imam wants from us.
112
Yes, to mourn for him, to gather, to uphold his legacy, to uphold his sha 'air.
113
But the Imam alayhis salam also wants us to purify our hearts
114
And we do so by keeping away from sins So how do we bring ourselves to stop from sins?
115
Here are some practical steps I will share with you Number one It's very helpful and important
116
To know how sins impact our intelligence This is another very important consequence of sins
117
that many people are unaware of we all love to be intelligent who doesn't
118
if right now there is a pill that you can take
119
and it cost $10 ,000 it increases your IQ by 20 points 30 points
120
and let's say you have that money or you can borrow
121
that money would you not take it everyone would take it right we want to be intelligent.
122
There is a converse relationship between sins and between intelligence.
123
I'll give you an example.
124
Scientific studies have shown, for instance, that anger and rage affect your IQ.
125
When you are in a state of anger,
126
your IQ is reduced your intelligence is reduced now
127
if you're wondering what is the science behind
128
that here's the science behind it subhanallah Allah subhanahu wa ta
129
'ala has given us a very sophisticated organ called the brain it's very complex it has many many different parts
130
when you analyze the brain it's a whole community, it's an entire government with ministers,
131
with many different fields and parts,
132
there's a central command system in the brain, it's very sophisticated.
133
Now one of the most important parts of the brain is the prefrontal cortex, this is right behind your forehead,
134
this is the area that's responsible for critical thinking for decision -making
135
when you're about to make a decision you're squeezing your mind you're weighing your pros
136
and cons that is the area in your brain
137
that you're using actively so when you're making decisions you need energy you need blood
138
and oxygen to flow properly in that part of your brain
139
so you can make the right decision now just as in any government there's competition between the different ministers.
140
Right?
141
Ministries, there's competition between the various parts of the brain.
142
There's a part in the middle of your brain called the amygdala.
143
This part is activated when you become angry.
144
When you rage and you're consumed with anger,
145
Blood and oxygen flow to this middle part of the brain Now what does that do?
146
When you're under the influence of anger It takes the resources away from the prefrontal cortex
147
And it concentrates the resources Meaning blood and oxygen In the middle part of the brain What happens?
148
That reduces your IQ you.
149
Your capacity to think properly and make good decisions are influenced.
150
One psychologist that I saw discussing this,
151
based on his studies, he even claimed that when you are in the state of anger,
152
your intelligence is reduced down to one -third.
153
I want you to think about this.
154
what's a good average IQ 120 good average IQ is 120
155
when you're angry and fuming
156
and you're raging your IQ can go down to 40 what
157
do you call a person who's got an IQ of 40 imagine we all go through this
158
when we rage in that moment your IQ can go down to 40.
159
Imagine if you're a genius, you're exceptionally smart.
160
If you have an IQ of 150 you're very smart.
161
If your IQ is 150 but you're raging and you're angry, go down to one -third.
162
What's one -third of 150?
163
That's 50.
164
What do you call a person who has an IQ of 50?
165
Anyone with an IQ of less than 80 we call this person a dumb person, a stupid person, an imbecile.
166
Imagine a genius with an IQ of 150,
167
his IQ can go down to 50 in a moment of anger and rage.
168
Even if you have Einstein's IQ.
169
Einstein's IQ is estimated to be 200 okay what's one third of
170
that 70 about 70 when i
171
when einstein rages his iq can go down to 70 that's
172
still a dumb person you see what anger does to us
173
that is why subhanallah amir al -mu'mineen states in nehaj al
174
-balagha al -hiddu darbun minal junoon subhanallah the imams they've mastered
175
these equations 14 centuries ago the imam alayhis salam says had the anger is a type of insanity
176
stupidity junoon insanity beware don't rage in
177
that moment you will lose your intelligence a person becomes stupid in
178
that moment it's a type of insanity then the imam alayhis salam states end then,
179
the person who rages and acts with rage he will regret it
180
when he goes back to his senses
181
when his IQ goes back from 40 to 120 and he realizes what he said and what he did, he will regret it,
182
I know some people who've made some of the worst mistakes of their life in a moment of anger
183
because you can't think clearly, so you will regret it then listen to what Imam Ali says,
184
there are some people who don't regret it you know what your Imam has to say,
185
has to comment وَإِنْ لَمْ يَنْدَمْ and if you don't regret it فَجُنُونُهُ مُسْتَحْكَمْ
186
the Imam says basically when you rage you temporarily become insane
187
and you'll regret it and if you don't regret it know that your insanity is permanent
188
if you don't regret your acts of rage then your insanity
189
is permanent these are the words of Amir al -Mu'mineen alayhi
190
salam that's what anger does the same applies to the power of desire this same psychologist said
191
when you're influenced by desires your IQ can go down to one -fourth 25 % of your IQ In moments of desire,
192
temptation, and I can attest to that my dear brothers and sisters.
193
I know some very intelligent people, they're smart, they're intelligent, they're otherwise successful.
194
But when they're consumed by desires and temptation, they become insane.
195
I've seen some people make the worst decisions of their life, because they're under the influence of what?
196
Of money There are some people They're willing to do anything for money They're willing To defraud anyone for money
197
They could be very intelligent people But in that moment They become insane
198
Because that's what the power of desire Does to them The love of money reduces your IQ It wrecks your intelligence
199
The influence of money The influence of power There are some people that are willing to do anything for power.
200
The influence of temptations and desires.
201
Have you seen people who are driven by a haram temptation?
202
They lose their senses.
203
They don't understand what they're doing.
204
They expose themselves.
205
They commit all types of sins.
206
Because they're under the influence of a desire.
207
That's when we forgo our intellect.
208
And hence the hadith from the Prophet ﷺ.
209
He states, ذَهَابُ الْعَقْلِ بَيْنَ الْهَوَى وَالشَّهْوَى Do you want to say goodbye to your intellect,
210
to your aql, to your intelligence?
211
That's when you are between your desires and temptations.
212
Constantly remembering this is extremely effective to protect yourself from sins.
213
tomorrow if you're tempted to commit a sin realize that sin is taking your intelligence
214
stealing robbing your intelligence do you really want that imagine
215
if someone can come
216
and just take 50 iq points from you you'd be very defensive well be very defensive
217
when it comes to sins
218
because that's exactly what they do this first tragedy strategy is
219
very effective in protecting us from the influence of sins think of this equation every single day
220
that will motivate you to say no to many of your desires many of haram temptations many of the sins
221
that influence us the second practical step
222
that I would like to share with you that helps us avoid sins is to always be preoccupied doing something productive.
223
Put very simple, do you know why we sin brothers and sisters?
224
We sin many times because we can afford to sin, because we have enough time to sin.
225
One strategy to keep yourself away from sins is to keep yourself busy.
226
When you have extra time that's being wasted and you have not planned for it, you do not know how to fill up your time,
227
you know what you're essentially telling shaitan?
228
You're telling shaitan, تفضل, come mess with me, I've got nothing to do.
229
When you have nothing to do, you've got all these shaitans trying to push you their way, to pull you their way.
230
A very effective strategy is to keep yourself busy, to the point of exhaustion,
231
yes I know it's not good to exhaust yourself but if that's the only way to keep you away from haram, wallah I love this exhaustion, the best exhaustion in the world,
232
if it's keeping you away from sins and from bad habits.
233
Exhaust yourself to the point where you literally don't have free time Now I'm not saying be a workaholic
234
and work and don't give time to your family
235
Don't go out on a nice summer day and enjoy the nature and outdoor activities that Allah has given you No,
236
of course you could do that And that is purposeful time If you go out on a lovely day You're exercising,
237
you're keeping yourself healthy that's good that's purposeful time
238
but many times we just have hours we don't know what
239
to do I'm bored I'm bored I don't know what to
240
do the minute you say I'm bored I don't know what
241
to do you're telling shaitan fadl come come play around with me because I have nothing to do
242
Never keep yourself not doing anything such that you get bored.
243
Once we get bored, that's when the sins keep piling up.
244
Keep yourself as busy as you can.
245
The busier you are, it's very simple.
246
The less opportunities you have to sin.
247
When we are purposeful with our schedule, We keep ourselves protected from sins For instance,
248
I'll give you another example here One of the common sins that we engage in is in our sahras Guys with guys, sisters with sisters, right?
249
When we sit in our sahras for 2 -3 hours The ghibah
250
and the backbiting and the gossiping And all the haram discussions that you're aware of Why?
251
Because they're not purposeful sahras Next time you want to have a Sahra
252
Make it purposeful By creating rules for the Sahra Have a theme for your Sahra Discuss something purposeful
253
Now if you tell me Sayyid Come on who's interested in
254
that That's more like a Q &A with you It's not
255
a Sahra First of all you can make it interesting Just requires some planning
256
Get together with some like minded Brothers and sisters who are passionate about productive subjects
257
and tell them beforehand this is what we're discussing this keeps you away from a lot of haram talk
258
and vain talk
259
secondly, secondly and this is important if that group is completely not interested
260
and all they want to do is sit and discuss haram honestly you should not be associating with them
261
this is your life, we live once Do I really want to spend my precious hours in Allah's disobedience? In gossip, in backbiting?
262
How is that going to help me?
263
How does that make me a better person?
264
And I'm just piling up these sins
265
So the second strategy my dear brothers
266
and sisters In protecting ourselves from sins Is to plan your
267
schedule Plan your day Every hour of your day know what you're doing Plan it make it purposeful
268
that will protect you from a lot of sins the third tip or strategy in protecting us from sins
269
is to know whom we are sinning against
270
Allah is the one who created me He gave me life He sustained me why should I sin against Him
271
create that feeling of shame in your heart One reason why we sin Is because we're not ashamed to sin Adi,
272
it's normal Allah who's been good to you Who's given you everything Who's your Rahman,
273
your Raheem Why should I sin?
274
What did Allah do wrong That warrants me disobeying?
275
Think about that That in itself raises believers spiritually so
276
that they feel ashamed of sinning know whom you're sinning against number four the fourth tip
277
or strategy is also to know whom you're sinning against
278
but in a different way Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala definitely
279
is merciful he is the compassionate he is the forgiver but
280
when you're sinning you're violating the king of the universe you're violating the most powerful being in existence is
281
that wise honestly to mess with the most powerful being in existence yes he's merciful
282
but he is powerful you keep violating there could be consequences
283
just like he forgives he also disciplines he also punishes think about
284
that do you really want to set up yourself against Allah, the most powerful king in existence.
285
One day a man comes to Imam Al -Husayn He tells him, Aba Abdullah, I'm addicted to sins.
286
I can't help but sin.
287
Give me a maw 'adha.
288
Give me some words of advice.
289
Help me out here.
290
I can't stop sinning.
291
The Imam gave him a very interesting response.
292
The Imam Alayhis Salaam says if you can get away with doing these five sin all that you want.
293
The man was shocked.
294
Imam Hussain Alayhis Salaam is allowing me to sin in some circumstances?
295
Do these five and sin all you want?
296
What are these five?
297
Listen to the words of Imam Hussain alayhis salam.
298
The Imam alayhis salam tells him, here's the first one, Do not eat from the sustenance and the rizq of Allah
299
and go and sin as much as you want. Can you do that?
300
Don't eat from his sustenance Then disobey him That is so full of shame when I do that Somebody is helping you,
301
blessing you Is doing you favors And you go
302
and you fight them You go and you disobey them You go and break their rules
303
That is very wretched when you think about it
304
So Imam Hussain a .s tells him It's very simple If you can not eat from his sustenance Ya Allah, go and sin as much as you want Can you?
305
That's the first one
306
The second one The imam tells him Exit the wilayah of Allah The protection of Allah
307
And go and sin as much as you want Can you?
308
Leave the protection of Allah
309
Every breath that you take Every heartbeat Is in the hands of Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala What do you control?
310
Do you control that in your body?
311
Sallu ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
312
We don't control that When you don't control
313
that That's not in your hands Then think twice about sinning
314
That's the second one The third one The Imam alayhi salam tells him
315
If you can find a place Where Allah cannot see you Go and sin all that you want
316
That's the third one The fourth one
317
When the angel of death comes to claim your soul
318
and claim your life If you can say no to the angel of death
319
and escape death Then go and sin all that you want
320
Number five On the day of judgment
321
When you're dragged to Malik Khazan al -Nar Malik is the
322
angel who is the keeper of hell He's in charge of the fire of hell
323
Imam Hussain alayhi salam says When they take you to Malik If you can say no to Malik, if you're more powerful than Malik,
324
and you can stop yourself from going into the fire of hell, then sin all that you want.
325
These five words changed the life of this man.
326
This is very effective when it comes to preventing sins.
327
So that is the fourth strategy my dear brothers and sisters.
328
The fifth strategy in stopping ourselves from sinning is to always evaluate our sins.
329
Keep track of them.
330
You know why we sin?
331
One common reason is because we do not keep track of them.
332
When you keep track of anything, you create awareness, self -awareness.
333
And you become in a better position to stop.
334
I remember years ago, there's this app that came in the smartphone that tracks what you eat.
335
I wanted to try it just for fun, just to see how it works.
336
So you tell it what you eat and it calculates the calories, the sugar, whatever you're eating.
337
I used it for like 10 days.
338
Believe me, during those 10 days I became mindful of what I was eating, whether it's healthy or not.
339
Watch what you eat, don't exceed these calories.
340
I became mindful of that.
341
No one was forcing me.
342
I didn't have any health issue.
343
I just wanted to try it.
344
But it created self -awareness in me.
345
Before that, I wasn't too aware of what I'm eating.
346
After that, I became much more aware.
347
Every time you sin, my dear brothers and sisters, this is a very effective strategy.
348
Every time you sin, write down the sin immediately take out your phone go into your notes section and write i committed the sin
349
at night before you sleep review
350
that list i guarantee you the following day will be a better day you'll be less inclined to sin
351
because now you're tracking your sins you're aware of the number of sins
352
that you committed and how many sins that you committed
353
and what you did many times we commit sins we forget 10 minutes later obviously I can't stop
354
if that's the case write down the sin immediately
355
when you write it down you become in a much better
356
position to stop the sin there are many other strategies my dear brothers
357
and sisters but these are the main ones that I wanted to share with you tonight And one of the final ones,
358
very briefly, is to always be in a state of purity, tahara and wudu.
359
Tahara is spiritual light.
360
Whenever you feel overpowered by your temptations and desires, a very quick strategy is to go and do wudu.
361
Try it.
362
Get up, do wudu.
363
Remember Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala.
364
Remember you have a Lord.
365
That in itself strengthens you In the face of
366
that haram desire In the face of temptation Or anger as we discussed anger It gives you more power
367
Because it's an act of spiritual ibadah It's a spiritual light
368
that you create for yourself Be on wudu as much as you can It's mustahab Even
369
if it's not time for salah Do wudu if you don't have wudu
370
Even if you did wudu You want to leave the house Do another wudu
371
The hadith from the Prophet ﷺ states The one who dies
372
in the state of wudu dies a shaheed Allah gives you the reward of a shaheed Who doesn't want that?
373
Another hadith tells us من جدد وضوءه من غير حدث جدد الله توبته من غير استغفار
374
If you do wudu Even if you didn't break your wudu
375
You do an extra wudu Mustahab Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala
376
Will forgive your sins Allah will accept your repentance Even if you didn't do istighfar That wudu becomes your istighfar So one effective strategy
377
If you feel overwhelmed by the shaytan You're sitting in a session of ghibah
378
And you can't stop it Get up
379
and do wudu I guarantee you You'll be in a better position to stop it Because that wudu gives you barakah,
380
it gives you that spiritual light And in these nights, my dear brothers
381
and sisters One of the best ways to protect ourselves from
382
sins Is to connect to the legacy of Imam Hussain The Imam gives you that infinite fuel To be strong,
383
to have that connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala the imam shows us in his most difficult moments
384
when he was surrounded by his enemies he's bleeding profusely he's lost his infant moments before
385
that imam hussein shows us power and strength and patience
386
that shocked the angels in one of the ziaras of imam hussein there is this passage
387
لَقَدْ عَجَبَتْ عَجَبَتْ مِنْ صَبْرِهِ مَلَائِكَةُ السَّمَاءِ
388
The angels who've seen everything since the time of Prophet Adam until that day they've seen every problem, every misery, every tragedy
389
they saw 124 ,000 Prophets and their patience but
390
that day the patience of Imam Hussain shocked them they had never seen something like that
391
Imam Hussain brought that power From his connection to Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala Remembering his legacy Gives you that inspiration
392
Every day, begin your day By thanking Al -Imam Al -Hussain As -salamu alayka ya Aba Abdullah
393
If you begin your school day, your work day By remembering your Imam And thanking your Imam I guarantee you that day will be a better day
394
That day will be a more blessed day A more productive day
395
Because you started it by remembering the legacy of your imam The imam alayhis salam will give you that inspiration
396
The reward Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala gives you For saying no to sins Is one of the greatest rewards
397
that you can get Think about
398
that In one authentic hadith From Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib
399
alayhis salam The imam alayhis salam states there are three types of patience the first type of patience is
400
when you are patient in the face of a tragedy a tragedy strikes you a family member
401
and you're patient the reward is great in this the Imam
402
says Allah gives you 300 darajah 300 levels the distance between
403
each level is from the earth to the sky that's
404
when you're patient in the face of a tragedy then the Imam alayhi salam states
405
but when your patience when it It comes to Ta 'ah, an act of obedience.
406
Like salah, like paying your zakat.
407
That's very difficult.
408
Allah gives you 600 degrees.
409
The distance between them is from the earth to the throne of Allah.
410
The third one.
411
When you're tempted to commit a sin.
412
And you become strong and you say no to that sin.
413
Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala gives you 900 degrees.
414
The distance between each degree.
415
That's how big these degrees are.
416
It's from the earth to the upper levels of God's throne.
417
Imagine the reward Allah gives you when you're patient.
418
Remembering that in itself motivates you to stop the sins.
419
So on these nights we connect to the legacy of Imam Hussain a .s.
420
And that is the biggest inspiration for us to stop ourselves from sinning.
421
As -salamu alayka ya Aba Abdullah Now I want to take your hearts To the Imams of Ahlul Bayt
422
When they would embrace the month of Muharram
423
When they would embrace the sorrowful crescent Of the month of
424
Muharram Al -Imamul Rida alayhi salam In a very moving hadith The Imam describes how the Ahlul Bayt on these days,
425
they experienced the tragedy of Imam Hussain alayhi as -salam.
426
And Imam al -Rada says, even the people of Jahiliyyah, they had some respect for the month of Muharram.
427
They would not fight and kill.
428
But as for us, the Ahlul Bayt, what happened to them in the month of Muharram?
429
The Imam says, we the Ahlul Bayt,
430
You know what happened in the month of Muharram Our blood was spilled Our women
431
and the children were taken as prisoners of war Then Imam Ar -Ridaa alayhis salaam states إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْحُسَيْنَ أَقْرَحَ جُفُونَنَا
432
The day of Hussain wounded our eyelids.
433
You know what that means?
434
Sometimes you cry, but sometimes you cry so excessively that you wound your eyelids.
435
That's how much pain the tragedy of Imam Hussain caused for the Imams of Ahlul Bayt.
436
وَأَسْبَلَ دُمُوعَنَا وَأَذَلَّ عَزِيزَنَا بِأَرْضِ كَرْبٍ وَبَلَى Yes,
437
the day of Karbala was a day that was very difficult for the Ahl al -Ba 'id.
438
The enemies tried to humiliate them.
439
أَوْرَثَتْنَا الْكَرْبَ وَالْبَلَى إِلَى يَوْمِ الْإِنْقِضَى Until the day of judgment
440
we will grieve the tragedy of Imam Hussain The
441
Imam says cry on the likes of Hussain Cry on
442
the tragedy of your Imam Then Imam Ar -Rada says My father
443
when he would see the crescent of Muharram He would not
444
be seen smiling anymore the grief would show on his face
445
until the death of Muharram he says on the day of Ashura my father
446
that would be his day of grief his day of mourning
447
his day of misery every year the Ahlul Bayt they had
448
to experience this great great tragedy Ya Allah Imam Zayn al
449
-Abidin alayhis salaam after Karbala for over 30 years he had to live these painful memories.
450
Imam Zain al -Abidin says every time I would look at my hands
451
and I would remember them going from one tent to other tent
452
when they set the tent to fire on the day of Ashura.
453
Imam Zain al -Abidin says I can't help But remember that scene, the woman of Ahl al -Bayit running from one tent to another tent,
454
and the evil one, what would he would say?
455
And the army of Yazid, they would say, destroy and burn the homes of the unjust ones.
456
Imagine having to hear that.
457
Ya Allah, how much did they have to handle? and Imam Sadiq alaihi salam, he would make it a point to mourn Imam Hussein.
458
Many people ask, whose tradition is this that we gather and we mourn?
459
This is the tradition of our imams.
460
Once a very famous poet, a Sayyid al -Himyari, he went to see al -Imam al -Sadiq alayhi salam.
461
It was during these days, al -Imam al -Sadiq alayhi salam tells him, do you have any poetry about my grandfather Hussain?
462
He says, yes, I do.
463
You know what the Iman does?
464
The Iman, he gets up, he brings a curtain, he sets up, he installs the curtain, and then he brings the woman and the children, they sit behind the curtain,
465
and the men are sitting on the side.
466
Imam al -Sadiq tells him you can now read the poetry and he recites that famous poetry
467
it's a very moving line of poetry go pass by the grave of Hussain
468
and say to his blessed bones Allahu Akbar what happened to
469
the bones of Imam Hussain he kept reciting the lines of poetry until the women, they broke into tears.
470
They started yelling and wailing.
471
And Imam Sadiq a .s told him, Stop, that's it.
472
You can stop now.
473
That's enough.
474
We cannot handle this anymore.
475
That's how the Ahlul Bayt lived the tragedy of Imam Hussain a .s.
476
On these nights, remember who Imam Hussain was.
477
Remember how his father, his grandfather would treat him.
478
One day the Prophet s .a .w.
479
is on the minbar.
480
This is even mentioned in Sunni sources.
481
He's on the minbar.
482
When suddenly Imam Hussain comes into the masjid, Imam Hussain trips and he falls.
483
The Prophet abruptly cuts his speech and he goes down from the minbar to carry him.
484
Then the Prophet comes on the minbar and he says, والله ما دريت أني نزلت من منبري.
485
The Prophet says, I don't know how I came down from my pulpit.
486
This is Hussain.
487
That's how much he loved Abu Abdullah and Hussain But Ya Rasulallah What did they do to your grandson Hussain
488
In the land of Karbala You know what the poet says I say this and I conclude The poet says
489
One day, Imam Hussain is on the chest of Mustafa, his grandfather is carrying him, playing with him, caring for him,
490
but one day that same Hussain is on the chest of Kirmala.
491
Raise your hands in du 'a.
494
We ask Allah to accept our majlis.
495
We ask Allah to bless you.
496
I know many of you have hajat.
497
And there's a dear brother who's struggling with a very difficult illness.
498
He's very dear to me as well.
499
I ask you to pray for his shifa.
500
All those that you know, they've asked you for du 'a.
501
This is the moment of istijabat al -du 'a.
502
Allah has promised with broken hearts and tears when believers gather, Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala answers their du 'a.
503
So ask Allah to fulfill your hajaat.
504
We ask Allah to grant healing and recovery for all those who are suffering.
505
And I ask you all to pray for your brothers and sisters, the women and children in Palestine who are suffering.
506
This is the moment that we also pray for them.
507
May Allah subhanahu wa ta 'ala bless you all, wassalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
