Lezione 1 · Tappa 1: Le basi
Be: am / is / are, was / were
PrincipianteForma e uso
am/is/are al presente, was/were al passato + un nome, un aggettivo o un luogo — dire chi, che cosa o dove è qualcosa
1.Le forme di be al presente
Be ha tre forme al presente: am, is e are.
| Soggetto | Affermativa | Forma contratta | Negativa |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | am | I'm | I'm not |
| he / she / it | is | he's / she's / it's | isn't (= he's not…) |
| we / you / they | are | we're / you're / they're | aren't (= we're not…) |
Un sostantivo singolare vuole is (My phone is…), un sostantivo plurale vuole are (These shoes are…). “Amn't” non esiste: la negativa di I am è I'm not.
2.Che cosa viene dopo be
My sister is a nurse.
Mia sorella è infermiera. (be + sostantivo)
The coffee is too sweet.
Il caffè è troppo dolce. (be + aggettivo)
Your keys are on the table.
Le tue chiavi sono sul tavolo. (be + luogo)
I'm twenty-three.
Ho ventitré anni. (l'età si esprime con be, non con have)
We're from Da Nang.
Siamo di Da Nang.
It's cold today. It's half past seven.
Oggi fa freddo. Sono le sette e mezza. (tempo atmosferico e ora: il soggetto è it)
In inglese l'età si esprime con be e la frase ha sempre un soggetto: I'm 23, It's cold, It's seven o'clock.
3.Domande e risposte brevi
Per fare una domanda, metti am / is / are prima del soggetto. La parola interrogativa (where, how old, what…) va all'inizio.
Are you hungry?
Hai fame?
Is your brother at home?
Tuo fratello è a casa?
Where is the bus stop?
Dov'è la fermata dell'autobus?
How old are your kids?
Quanti anni hanno i tuoi figli?
Risposte brevi: Yes, I am. / No, I'm not. — Yes, it is. / No, it isn't.
4.Passato: was / were
| Soggetto | Affermativa | Negativa | Domanda |
|---|---|---|---|
| I / he / she / it | was | wasn't | Was I / he…? |
| we / you / they | were | weren't | Were we / you…? |
I was at the gym last night.
Ieri sera ero in palestra.
The tickets weren't expensive.
I biglietti non erano cari.
Were you nervous before the interview?
Eri nervoso prima del colloquio?
Where was she yesterday? — She was in Hanoi.
Dov'era ieri? — Era a Hanoi.
5.Errori comuni
She very friendly. She is very friendly.
Prima di un aggettivo serve sempre be.
I have 25 years old.I'm 25 (years old).
L'età si esprime con be, non con have (anche se in italiano si dice “ho 25 anni”).
My parents is teachers. My parents are teachers.
Soggetto plurale → are.
Yes, I'm.Yes, I am.
Le risposte brevi affermative non si contraggono.
I am agree with you.I agree with you.
