Present simple

Principiante

Forma e uso

I work, she works, do you work?, he doesn't — abitudini, routine e cose sempre vere

1.Forma

Il present simple usa la forma base del verbo; solo con he / she / it (e con i sostantivi singolari) si aggiunge -s / -es. Domande e negative hanno bisogno dell'ausiliare do / does.

I / you / we / theyhe / she / it
AffermativaI work.She works.
NegativaI don't work.She doesn't work.
DomandaDo you work?Does she work?
Risposta breveYes, I do. / No, I don't.Yes, she does. / No, she doesn't.

Does / doesn't porta già la -s, quindi il verbo che segue torna alla forma base: She doesn't like (non likes), Does he play? (non plays).

2.Aggiungere -s o -es

Il verbo finisce inRegolaEsempi
la maggior parte dei verbi+ swork → works, play → plays, read → reads
-s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o+ esmiss → misses, wash → washes, watch → watches, fix → fixes, go → goes, do → does
consonante + yy → iesstudy → studies, carry → carries, fly → flies
vocale + y+ sstay → stays, enjoy → enjoys, buy → buys
haveirregolarehave → has

Pronuncia della desinenza: /ɪz/ dopo i suoni sibilanti (watches, washes, misses), /s/ dopo i suoni sordi p, t, k, f (works, stops), /z/ dopo tutti gli altri (plays, reads, lives). Attenzione: does si pronuncia /dʌz/ e says /sez/.
