1
Product design and research professionals love to joke about being so busy.
2
It's cute at first, but it's actually a sign of a deeply rooted problem in the product design space.
3
Mistaking activity for progress.
4
There is near constant pressure to run more research studies, chase new frameworks, schedule more workshops, polish prettier decks, on top of our ongoing design work.
5
But here's a hard truth.
6
If your last insight didn't change a single roadmap item, that wasn't UX.
7
That was UX theater.
8
UX theater is the tendency to use UX frameworks and methods without producing meaningful results.
9
In other words, it's acting like we're doing important UX work.
10
Most folks don't do this on purpose.
11
We follow processes that promise better outcomes and then wonder why nothing shifts.
12
But there are some common traps that people fall into.
13
The first is unclear goals.
14
An open mind is great.
15
An unaligned research and design effort isn't.
16
If research doesn't answer the design team's core questions on usage, support, adoption, that's trivia, not direction.
17
Next is weak evidence.
18
Vague or unreliable insights come from shaky research methods or shallow analysis,
19
or only trying to confirm our hypothesis rather than trying to be open to proving it wrong.
20
Shortcuts in planning or analysis or biased task writing can all yield inconclusive results.
21
But even if you have a strong research practice and strong insights, that doesn't always mean that people will use them.
22
Culprit number three is poor application of insights.
23
Even strong insights are at risk if only a few people can see or engage with them.
24
If access is difficult or the format feels like a homework assignment, teams won't use it.
25
Finally, the last culprit is skipping testing.
26
Teams everywhere frequently ship untested designs to save time, but the end result, ironically,
27
means spending more time fixing issues at scale that could have been avoided in the first place.
28
And that's the thing.
29
All of this is avoidable.
30
If you want to avoid unclear goals, then set aside time with your team to align on goals and scope.
31
Ground your conversations and goals in reality and feasibility.
32
And sure, we can strive for radical change for our products as much as we want,
33
but none of it will happen if we don't face technical and financial limitations head -on.
34
If you want stronger data, choose methods intentionally and make sure your studies are methodologically sound.
35
You don't need bigger studies, you need better ones that actually answer your research questions.
36
Recruit the right participants, write unbiased tasks, and document study limitations so insights aren't overgeneralized.
37
Then, if you actually want those insights applied, package them as decisions.
38
Don't drop a 100 -page report.
39
Share the highlights, the decisions at stake, the trade -offs, the evidence, the recommended next step, and put it somewhere that's easy for others to find.
40
Finally, when the time comes to implement design choices, treat designs as a living experiment.
41
Be prepared to test before you launch a product to the masses, even if it's on a small scale.
42
To be clear, none of this is easy.
43
It requires subject matter expertise and persistent advocacy.
44
A one -day workshop won't solve systemic issues if we're not also dedicating time to research and analysis,
45
or getting buy -in from the people that can make a difference.
46
But the cure for UX theater is evidence that moves decisions.
47
Start small.
48
Clarify one goal.
49
Tighten one study.
50
Run one test.
51
And turn that into one visible roadmap change.
52
Small details can do wonders to take us from performance to progress.

Произношение, на которое стоит обратить внимание

Говорящий использует 15 сокращённых и редуцированных форм, например don't, doesn't, wasn't. Произносите их коротко, так, как слышите.

  • Звуки «th»: theater /ˈθi(ə)tɚ/, hypothesis /haɪˈpɒθɪsɪs/
  • Звуки «sh» и «zh»: workshop /ˈwɝk.ʃɑp/, limitation /lɪmɪˈteɪʃən/, polish /ˈpɑ.lɪʃ/, adoption /əˈdɑp.ʃən/, shallow /ˈʃæloʊ/
  • Длинные слова — следите за ударением: limitation /lɪmɪˈteɪʃən/, experiment /ɪkˈspɛɹ.ə.mənt/, advocacy /ˈæd.və.kə.si/, hypothesis /haɪˈpɒθɪsɪs/, intentionally /ɪnˈtɛn(t)ʃənəli/

Звуки, трудные для русскоязычных:

  • /w/ — губы округлены, это не /v/: framework /ˈfɹeɪm.wɜːk/, workshop /ˈwɝk.ʃɑp/, homework /ˈhoʊmˌwɝk/

Shadowing?
