1
The vision for NTNU is knowledge for a better world.
2
I think we have a common goal to find a sustainable pathway to net zero into 250.
3
For Equinor, it's very important to get input from top universities as NTNU
4
and the international experts that are here today on how will a future energy company,
5
let's say in 2040, how will it look like and how will the business look like?
6
Maybe we will have ideas around how the future value chains will be and how we can get there.
7
We have net zero targets that we are committed to meet
8
and to meet those targets we need to navigate where are the opportunities within these policies
9
and politics where do we develop the different projects,
10
etc. and how do we navigate the policies and politics while meeting net zero in 2050.
11
There's a role for academia in helping companies understand energy policies, understanding what it is the government's trying to do,
12
both in terms of overall strategy and then the detailed policies for supporting renewable energy,
13
carbon capture, etc. I think it's also something about the reality, you know, thinking about how to respond to those policies
14
and encouraging companies like Equinal to really take advantage of the opportunities to shift their own operations towards,
15
you know, new energy sources that are more compatible with net zero.
16
You know, this polarized image of opposition, of social acceptance, and the corporate power happens in these disciplinary bubbles as well.
17
We need to break those and be able to understand and to be able to work across.
18
So a lot of projects or project stories that people at my table have been telling me about,
19
a lot of it could have been navigated had they had more interdisciplinary engagement with understanding the context
20
that they were working within.
21
So I I think there's much to be gained, both on the technology side, which already the collaboration is quite strong on,
22
but also on the more societal aspects of understanding implementation.
23
In the cooperation between NTNU and Equinor, we should continue to work on future low carbon sectors,
24
on hydrogen, on CCS, but also still on renewable technologies.
25
With our academic knowledge, we can help them understand what's the best timing, and how will uncertainties produce and what can be Equinox contribution to that?
26
Well, for the operations that big companies do, they need support both politically and from society.
27
And to get that, it is important to understand what drives people's wishes and preferences.
28
So it is important to engage with these communities and with different stakeholders and to understand the diversity of different positions there.
29
It's about always looking for improvements, always looking for new opportunities,
30
because we know that what is good enough today, it's not going to be good enough tomorrow.

What You'll Learn from This Video

This clip is a goldmine for building professional speaking skills and active listening in English. You’ll practice following complex discussions about global topics—like energy transition—while picking up how to articulate ideas clearly in formal settings. Additionally, it hones your ability to understand nuanced vocabulary (e.g., "net zero," "carbon capture") and follow multi-party conversations, a key skill for real-world communication. Use shadow speech to mimic the speakers’ clarity and confidence, and you’ll quickly improve your own ability to participate in serious discussions.

Listen For These Sounds

The dialogue is rich with connected speech patterns common in academic and business settings. Notice how "net zero" often links to "targets" as "netzero targets" (eliding the "t" sound). Phrases like "how will it look like" reduce to "how’ll it look like" in fast speech, and "we need to" becomes "we needta" with a schwa sound. Also, listen for the softening of "can" to "kin" in "what can be Equinor’s contribution." These reductions are critical for understanding native speakers—and for sounding natural yourself when you practice shadow speak.

Say It Like a Native

To mirror the speakers’ rhythm, focus on stress and intonation. Key terms like "sustainable pathway," "interdisciplinary engagement," and "renewable technologies" are stressed to emphasize importance—copy this to make your speech more impactful. The speakers use a steady, deliberate pace, pausing slightly before key points (e.g., "So a lot of projects…"). Practice shadowing this pace to build fluency. Also, mimic the rising intonation in questions like "how will the business look like?" to sound conversational, not robotic. Learning English with videos like this—paired with consistent shadow speech practice—will transform your pronunciation and confidence. Remember: what’s "good enough" today won’t be tomorrow, so keep practicing those shadowspeaks!
