1
The vision for NTNU is knowledge for a better world.
2
I think we have a common goal to find a sustainable pathway to net zero into 250.
3
For Equinor, it's very important to get input from top universities as NTNU
4
and the international experts that are here today on how will a future energy company,
5
let's say in 2040, how will it look like and how will the business look like?
6
Maybe we will have ideas around how the future value chains will be and how we can get there.
7
We have net zero targets that we are committed to meet
8
and to meet those targets we need to navigate where are the opportunities within these policies
9
and politics where do we develop the different projects,
10
etc. and how do we navigate the policies and politics while meeting net zero in 2050.
11
There's a role for academia in helping companies understand energy policies, understanding what it is the government's trying to do,
12
both in terms of overall strategy and then the detailed policies for supporting renewable energy,
13
carbon capture, etc. I think it's also something about the reality, you know, thinking about how to respond to those policies
14
and encouraging companies like Equinal to really take advantage of the opportunities to shift their own operations towards,
15
you know, new energy sources that are more compatible with net zero.
16
You know, this polarized image of opposition, of social acceptance, and the corporate power happens in these disciplinary bubbles as well.
17
We need to break those and be able to understand and to be able to work across.
18
So a lot of projects or project stories that people at my table have been telling me about,
19
a lot of it could have been navigated had they had more interdisciplinary engagement with understanding the context
20
that they were working within.
21
So I I think there's much to be gained, both on the technology side, which already the collaboration is quite strong on,
22
but also on the more societal aspects of understanding implementation.
23
In the cooperation between NTNU and Equinor, we should continue to work on future low carbon sectors,
24
on hydrogen, on CCS, but also still on renewable technologies.
25
With our academic knowledge, we can help them understand what's the best timing, and how will uncertainties produce and what can be Equinox contribution to that?
26
Well, for the operations that big companies do, they need support both politically and from society.
27
And to get that, it is important to understand what drives people's wishes and preferences.
28
So it is important to engage with these communities and with different stakeholders and to understand the diversity of different positions there.
29
It's about always looking for improvements, always looking for new opportunities,
30
because we know that what is good enough today, it's not going to be good enough tomorrow.
