1
I've never really had to worry about exercising as a kid.
2
Obviously with less responsibilities, we as kids had more time for leisure activities.
3
I wasn't much of a jock, but I did enjoy being active.
4
It wasn't until university
5
that I realized I needed to actually schedule a time apart from my daily schedule to be physically active.
6
It got even worse after university when I decided to do YouTube full-time.
7
Which meant I was sitting down for most of the day animating and drawing.
8
And when I wasn't doing that, I was sitting down and playing video games.
9
And when I wasn't doing that, I was sitting down and watching anime.
10
Eventually I realized, holy crap.
11
I sat down a lot.
12
I started gaining weight over time.
13
It wasn't a drastic overnight change, but people started noticing and pointing it out.
14
My body usually did a pretty okay job at regulating my weight
15
and gave me signs when I was eating too much like, Yo, bro, can you chill?
16
That's like your eighth donut today.
17
So I did my best to try to exercise.
18
I signed up at the gym, I played DDR pretty often, and took Nala for runs and walks.
19
Okay, let's talk about the gym for a bit.
20
I think aside from the flock of fuckboys in the making, I find the gym to be a really magical place.
21
It's a place where the tools, actual tools, and motivation are available for a healthier lifestyle.
22
I'm not saying the gym is necessary to exercise.
23
You can honestly do a lot of the things from the comfort of your home
24
or just outside But there's something about going to the gym
25
and seeing other people working out that just encourages me to do the same
26
And if you're feeling self-conscious about your body because it's a public place
27
and people might look
28
and judge You shouldn't you can't be shamed for going to the gym to get in shape
29
because you're out of it That's literally why you're there That's
30
like making fun of someone for going to med school because they don't know enough about medicine The jacked, washboard-looking-ass mofos you see at the gym, they weren't always like that.
31
Wow!
32
Everyone has to start somewhere.
33
It doesn't matter where you start as long as you do.
34
But of course to feel the magic atmosphere, I first had to get myself to the gym.
35
In my case, and probably a lot of yours, the problem wasn't exactly starting, but maintaining.
36
I eventually stopped going to the gym.
37
I stopped playing DDR often.
38
Nala resolved to running around in the backyard by herself.
39
I started gaining weight again.
40
Clothes started feeling tight, my jeans became uncomfortable to wear, my partner at the time said she preferred me a little chubby because it was more comfy to cuddle with, so I was like, sweet, I can just let myself go!
41
And so I did.
42
A few years and 15 pounds later, I meet a fan at a convention.
43
I'm still kind of surprised every now and then when people recognize me in public, since I don't show my face in my videos often.
44
Even when I'm wearing a scarf, a hat, a hood, and headphones, some people be like, I-DOMICS?!
45
Oh shit, what up?!
46
But this was at a convention, so it made sense.
47
Anyway, I thought this would be like most interactions I have with fans of my work, but this particular encounter stuck with me.
48
Now, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't mean any offense, because, for real, you guys who do come and say hello to me are so polite and respectful, I'm very grateful for that.
49
So, at some point in the conversation, he said, You draw yourself skinnier than you are in your animations.
50
I wasn't sure how to react to it, so I laughed it off and agreed because, to hell, he was right.
51
I mean, I do draw my character with a rounded face, but overall he has a sort of slim physique.
52
His words stuck with me because I always drew myself with whatever hair I had at the time, whether it was a little shorter, longer, red, blonde, or whatever,
53
but I always kept my body proportions relatively consistent.
54
I came to an understanding that I wasn't happy with my body.
55
I still drew myself slim because that was my personal ideal size for myself.
56
Often, when we have the freedom to create representations of ourselves, whether it be a drawing, a painting, or a photograph,
57
we tend to alter it so that it may look subjectively more attractive than we actually are.
58
Why do you think most people only take selfies at certain angles and lighting?
59
It was the same thing for me.
60
I was getting older and my body's not what it used to be.
61
I don't have the same metabolism I had as a kid, and the shit I put into my stomach actually had more consequences than before.
62
As a disclaimer, this isn't meant to fat shame anyone.
63
I'm not saying that since I wasn't happy with my weight, you should be as well.
64
I'm saying that you should all come to some sort of acceptance with your own appearance, and any changes you wish to pursue should include the consideration of your health.
65
And that's what I wish to be and remain.
66
Healthy.
67
But sometimes you look at the bubble tea deal and it's like, I'm weak.
68
Treat yo-self.
69
But I do miss being able to run for a few minutes without my lungs imploding.
70
I miss being able to do a baby freeze without feeling like I'm suffocating a baby
71
that I'm pregnant with I miss being able to fit into my jeans
72
and being able to bend or crouch without cutting off my circulation
73
Joggers are comfy and all
74
but that's like all I wear nowadays I'm sure 15 pounds
75
may not seem like a lot for some of you
76
But it's 15 more than what I'm happy with
77
and I'm done being unhappy I've started exercising often again trying to fix my diet
78
and cutting my intake because honestly I just went to the fridge
79
and cupboard when I was bored like I wasn't hungry
80
But I just wandered into the kitchen and just wanted to taste something know what I mean
81
Why does food gotta be so freaking delicious?
82
But hey, you don't need New Year's as an excuse to work out.
83
Hell, you don't even need to be overweight to work out
84
Just find your own personal reason make your own goal do a baby freeze
85
I'm sorry.
86
I'm so sorry.

Step-by-Step Shadowing Guide for This Video

Shadowing is a proven technique to improve pronunciation and fluency. Here's how to use this video for shadow speech practice:

Step 1: Listen and Analyze

First, watch the video without pausing. Notice the speaker's tone—casual, conversational, with pauses for emphasis. Pay attention to phrases like "holy crap" and "sweet," which add informality. This helps you grasp natural rhythm, key for IELTS speaking practice.

Step 2: Repeat in Real Time

Play short clips (5-10 seconds) and repeat immediately, mimicking the speaker's pace and intonation. Focus on tricky phrases like "washboard-looking-ass mofos"—break them into syllables if needed. Use a shadowing site to record yourself and compare to the original.

Step 3: Focus on Connection

The dialogue flows like a chat with a friend. Practice linking words (e.g., "and so I did," "but this was at a convention") to sound natural. This is critical for shadowspeak—speaking smoothly without awkward pauses.

Step 4: Master Emphasis

The speaker stresses words like "maintaining," "15 pounds," and "right" to highlight key points. Repeat these sections, emphasizing the same words to convey meaning effectively. This skill boosts your ability to engage listeners, a must for IELTS success.

Consistency is key—spend 10-15 minutes daily with this video, and you'll notice improved fluency and confidence in no time.
