27
Now listen to these two responses, these full responses.
28
The first one is a learner response.
29
My day was good.

32
Now listen to the fluent English speaker response.
33
Oh, it was actually a pretty good day.
34
So this morning was kind of rough.
35
I overslept.
36
So I was rushing around trying to get my daughter ready for school.
37
And by the time I got to the office, I was totally frazzled.
38
Things got better in the afternoon, though.
39
My co -worker Aiko and I had back -to -back meetings, but instead of eating at our desks like we usually do,
40
we grabbed lunch at this little ramen place near the river.
41
It was a nice change of pace, and honestly, it was great to talk about something other than work for once.

45
And by like nine o 'clock, I was wiped out.
46
So I decided to call it a day.
47
I felt really relaxed.
48
So yeah, that was my day.
49
So imagine these two responses, both from an individual.
50
He is talking about his life, right?
51
What happened today, but one is when he was a learner and the other is when he became a fluent speaker.
52
So why are these responses from this man so different?
53
Here's the first reason a schedule versus a story.
54
You see Kenji's first answer.
55
That's the man's name.
56
We're giving him the name Kenji Kenji's first answer sounds like he's reading his calendar, seven o 'clock work, lunch, home.
57
However, the fluent answer given by Kenji, it tells you what his day was actually like one is a calendar.
58
The other is a story about his day.
59
Reason number two, why the responses are so different
60
and empty day versus is a full one you see in
61
the learner's answer nobody else is there however in the fluent
62
answer you meet Kenji's daughter you meet his co -worker Eiko
63
and you meet Kenji's wife people make a day feel real you're starting to recognize the subtle differences
64
but the subtle important differences between these two responses again reason number two an empty day versus a full one
65
and this leads us to the third reason why the responses are
66
so different again the learner response versus the fluent response reason
67
number three is facts versus feelings you see the learner response In the learner response,
68
Kenji said good once and never said how he felt again.
69
But in the fluent answer, there's this up and down, up and down of emotions.
70
Frazzled in the morning, refreshed at lunch, relaxed at night.
71
And Eiko moving to Canada gives the listeners something to ask about.
72
So facts versus feelings.
73
Now I want to explain the method that Kenji used to give this natural English.
74
Fluent response.
75
Here's the method.
76
I want us to go deep.
77
Now I want you to look at those three differences again, what happened,
78
who was there and how it felt that's literally the whole secret
79
and it has a name it's called the around
80
the clock daily life method around the clock daily life method.
81
This is the method that Kenji used to actually give the second fluent English response.
82
Now I want you to picture a clock.
83
Think about a clock that represents your day.
84
Now your day moves around it in three parts.
85
You have the morning.
86
Let's separate this off.
87
You have the morning.
88
Let's say this is your morning.
89
If you're looking at the video, then you have your afternoon.
90
This is the second part of your day.
91
And then finally you have the evening what you're doing during the last part of your day.
92
So we have the morning, the afternoon, and the evening.
93
And in every part, you ask yourself the same three questions.
94
This is where it gets interesting for each part.
95
You're asking yourself three questions.
96
The first question is what, what did you do during that part of your day?
97
The second question you're asking yourself is who, who were you with?
98
And the third question you're asking yourself is how, how did you feel about what happened?
99
So again, the first one, what did you do?
100
The second one, who were you with?
101
And the third one, how did you feel about that?
102
How about it?
103
This is the around the clock daily life method.
104
I'm getting tongue twisted, tongue tied.
105
All right.
106
So around the clock daily life method.
107
Now, what is the starting point?
108
The starting point is the question, the topic, the question, what are they asking you?
109
So before you walk through your day, you want to answer the question in one quick line.
110
Before you start walking through your day, this tells the listener where your story is going.
111
So you're starting with this one quick line, think about it.
112
The question was asked to Kenji, how was your day?
113
Kenji's response was, oh, it was actually a pretty good day.
114
He started by giving a quick one line answer.
115
So we can imagine this kind of being that center part for Kenji.
116
Oh, Hey, listen, it was actually a pretty good day.
117
That starting point.
118
Then we go to the morning and your morning actually is going to set the tone.
119
So we start with your morning.
120
Now your morning again is what sets the tone.
121
And it usually is where the day's first little problem or first good moment shows up.
122
So it pulls the listener in right away.
123
Was there a problem or was there a good moment?
124
Kenji said it like this.
125
So this morning was kind of rough.
126
I overslept.
127
So I was rushing around trying to get my daughter ready for school.
128
And by the time I got to the office, I was totally frazzled.
129
This is how Kenji started his response.
130
So remember for each part of the day, what do we need to do?
131
We need to answer.
132
Let's highlight it.
133
What happened?
134
So what happened for Kenji?
135
He overslept and rushed to get ready. Who?
136
He was with his daughter.
137
And how did he feel?
138
How did he feel?
139
He was frazzled.
140
So if we were answering the questions again, what?
141
He overslept.
142
Again, who was he with?
143
His daughter.
144
Man.
145
And how did he feel? he felt frazzled we're just speaking
146
about the morning now there's an advanced vocabulary word right here the word is frazzled
147
so i want you to repeat after me frazzled Excellent.
148
One more time.
149
Frazzled.
150
Great job.
151
Now, what does this word mean?
152
It means stressed, worn out and a little scattered because too many things are happening at once.
153
In English, we say frazzled.
154
So Kenji, he felt frazzled.
155
Why?
156
He was trying to get his daughter ready for school, but he overslept.
157
So he was feeling frazzled.
158
Now here's an example sentence.
159
three calls two emails and a broken printer and it wasn't even 10 o 'clock i was completely frazzled
160
you got it right excellent all right now this moves us
161
to the next part of our around the clock daily life
162
method now we're getting to the part of our day that's entitled the afternoon now we're looking at the afternoon.
163
Now the afternoon is the middle of your story.
164
This is a great place for a change or a shift, something that surprised you or a moment that's worth talking about.
165
Here we go.
166
Remember what Kenji said.
167
Kenji said, things got better in the afternoon though.
168
My coworker, Aiko and I had back to back meetings, but instead of eating at our desks, like we usually do,
169
we grabbed lunch at this little ramen place near the river it was a nice change of pace
170
and honestly it was great to talk about something other than
171
work for once she told me she's moving to canada next year
172
which i totally did not see coming
173
so what do we see here once again following our method again the around the clock daily life method.
174
So let's write what we have for the what,
175
so what happened in the afternoon for Kenji.
176
Now let's change the color for the afternoon.
177
What happened meetings and then lunch.
178
So we had meetings back to back meetings and he also had lunch, but who was he with?
179
He was with his coworker and her name was Aiko in our story.
180
And then how are our response, how he felt refreshed and surprised,
181
refreshed to go out for lunch and then surprised.
182
Why?
183
Because of Aiko's news.
184
So again, we're still using our around the clock daily life method, but we're looking at the afternoon.
185
Now, in this response, this part of his response, we heard a new English expression.
186
The expression is a change of pace.
187
Excellent.
188
Again, a change of pace.
189
Yes.
190
Very good.
191
All right.
192
Now I want to give you the definition of this term, a change of pace.
193
So it just means something different from your normal routine that feels refreshing.
194
Ah, this feels good.
195
It's out of the norm, but it feels refreshing.
196
Here's an example sentence.
197
We usually cook at home.
198
So going out for tacos last night was a nice change of pace.
199
Makes sense, right?
200
Excellent.
201
All right, now we move to the next part of our around the clock daily life method.
202
We're looking now at the evening.
203
So let's get a different color.
204
Now we're looking at the evening part of our day.
205
So let's see for Kenji.
206
Now the evening is how your day ends, how it wraps up.
207
This is where you slow down and where your answer starts coming in for a landing like a plane.
208
Now this is what Kenji said.
209
Kenji said, and then this evening, I just stayed home with my wife and daughter.
210
We made curry together and watched a movie.
211
And by like nine o 'clock, I was wiped out.
212
So I decided to call it a day.
213
I felt really relaxed.
214
This is the end that Kenji decided to talk about the end of his day.
215
But again, using our method, the around the clock daily life method, we have to make sure the three questions were answered
216
so let's look at the first question remember the first question we have is what
217
so for the what he made curry watched a movie
218
and went to bed early so we have curry going to bed early
219
and also we had watching a movie so let's put that right in the middle watched a movie.
220
Okay?
221
Now, who?
222
This is White and his daughter.
223
Right?
224
He has his wife and daughter.
225
Notice the answer to the questions.
226
What we have about message.
227
And how do you feel?
228
He said he felt relaxed.
229
He felt very relaxed.
230
So, each of the questions has their answers.
231
This is why I can give a response.
232
Now, in his response, the last part of his response, he had an English student.
233
Are you clear?
234
Call it a day.
235
More again over time.
236
Call it a day.
237
Excellent.
238
Now, here's the definition.
239
It just means to stop working or stop an activity because you've done enough for now.
240
So, now when you call something, you announce it officially.
241
So we're announcing that day is done.
242
All of the day I am done, I can do my work.
243
I'm done doing the day.
244
You're looking good.
245
We think that we think we need.
246
Let's all in a day and finish tomorrow.
247
You got it, right?
248
Excellent.
249
Now, we have morning, afternoon, and we are around the clock daily life message.
250
What happened?
251
Who are you doing?
252
And how did you feel?
253
So yes, that was my day.
254
We bring it right back to the question.
255
That, my friend, is the around -the -clock daily life method.
256
Now, if you enjoyed this lesson and you learned a lot, this does represent one of my six industry methods.
257
You can get my industry and the price of the latest in the system.
258
But if you want to study with me and students who are learning around the world,
259
you can join our family by going to www .ceapenglishwithhifties .com for the track 365 system
260
and follow my daily system for food, food, and food.
261
And I, my friend, will talk to you in the next lesson.
262
you know what time it is it's story time I said it's story time alright,
263
this is story time oh,
264
today I'm going to tell you this story is entitled The Woman Who Wrote Before the Time My friends,
265
let's get it Every eye of their eye is coming to you.
266
Your job, your boss, your children, your spouse.
267
Where did you find? Where did you find?
268
This is a true story from the women in this story.
269
One of the most famous, one of the most celebrated writers in the world.
270
But I'm not going to tell you a name just yet.
271
It's a good story.
272
This woman grew up in a small steel town in Ohio.
273
Her father was a welder.
274
Her mother seemed other to come.
275
They were hard workers.
276
They did have much money.
277
They did, however, have serious.
278
Folk tales, songs, family stories told about the people's table.
279
They were family saying love this way.
280
Now that love happened in all of a great time.
281
She studied literature at Howard University.
282
She earned a master's degree at Cornell.
283
My sister took it back to Howard University as well.
284
This woman got her master's degree at Cornell and copied that with that Howard University at Cornell as a teacher.
285
And it was there that she had a beautiful life together they had two sons with a beautiful life.
286
I love that beautiful life.
287
This life that made me.
288
By night she was here and made me baby.
289
And she was raised and she was younger.
290
She needed to say, good, good, good job.
291
And she needed to do it.
292
You will.
293
You will.
294
You will.
295
You will.
296
You will.
297
You will.
298
You will.
299
You will.
300
You will.
301
You will.
302
You will.
303
You will.
304
You will.
305
You will.
306
Two little boys that she has to get to school in the afternoon, demanding office job, reading and fixing other people's books.
307
And in the evening, making dinner for those same little boys, helping those same little boys with their homework and making sure those same little boys get to bed.
308
That kind of schedule would have left anyone frazzled.
309
But all day long, she was surrounded by books and she kept noticing something missing.
310
You see, she had never read a book where a young black girl was the center of the story, not a background character, the center.
311
So she decided to write that book herself.
312
But when she tried writing at night, but after a full day of work and kids, she had nothing left.
313
Her energy had been expended.
314
She was exhausted.
315
Most people would have looked at that schedule and called it a day for good, but she didn't.
316
She found the one part of the day nobody else wanted, the quiet hours before sunrise.
317
She would get up at four or five in the morning quietly so she wouldn't wake her boys.
318
She made a cup of coffee while it was still dark outside and she sat there and waited.
319
so she could in her words watch the light come
320
and then she wrote for her
321
that quiet hour was a change of pace from everything else
322
no boss no phone no duties no responsibilities no little voices calling her name though she loved them
323
so much she had a moment of peace and quiet just her the coffee and her words.
324
Day after day, morning after morning.
325
She started that first book in 1965.
326
It was published in 1970 when she was 39 years old.
327
And here's my favorite part.
328
She kept it so quiet that her own coworkers found out about her novel from a review in the New York times.
329
She didn't stop though.
330
She kept going more early mornings, more books.
331
And one of those books won the Pulitzer prize.
332
Then in 1993, she won the Nobel prize in literature.
333
The first black woman in history to win it.
334
The single mom of two boys who wrote before the sun came up was Toni Morrison.
335
Toni Morrison passed away in 2019 at 88 years old in 2023,
336
the United States Postal Service put her face on a stamp.
337
She never had a perfect day.
338
She never had extra time.
339
She just took one small piece of her day, the piece nobody else wanted, and she used it again and again.
340
So my friend, what does this mean for you as an English learner?
341
Maybe you think your day is too ordinary to talk about.
342
