1
Hi, it's Robin Sharma, author of The Leader Who Had No Title and The 5AM Club.
2
And welcome to this episode.
3
This episode is called Why So Few Succeed.
4
So if you look at the majority of people in many ways,
5
they are like a cork bobbing in the ocean.
6
They're drifting along.
7
Someone once said the states person thinks about the future generations,
8
the ordinary person thinks about the rest of the day.
9
And unfortunately so many good people with massive potential to achieve their personal genius have betrayed it
10
because they just got pulled into reactivity,
11
pulled into the noise of our modern life,
12
pulled into diversions and distractions and trivial attractions.
13
And so what I wanted to do in this episode to be of service to you is deconstruct why
14
so few people succeed.
15
And so I've come up with an acronym.
16
The acronym is LSG.
17
LSG.
18
And so few people who could succeed actually do succeed because they've given up on learning,
19
study, and growth.
20
LSG, learning, study, and growth.
21
So the neurobiologists and neuropsychologists will tell us that the human brain craves learning,
22
and it craves curiosity, and it craves novelty.
23
And unfortunately, a lot of us,
24
we learned in school, but the moment we left school and walked out into the world,
25
we've given up on our personal commitment to growth.
26
And so I'm inviting you with great love
27
and respect to reclaim the curiosity you once knew as a child when you were overflowing with awe and wonder.
28
You see, our natural state is the way we were as children.
29
We're built to be curious.
30
We're built to be passionate.
31
We're built to be full of energy.
32
We're built to question things.
33
You look at a little child and it's like,
34
mommy, daddy, why, why, why, why?
35
You look at an adult and they've contracted their curiosity.
36
They've given up on seeing the magic in the world.
37
They no longer grow.
38
And so the mindset, I want you to start practicing because no idea works unless you do the work.
39
To install a core belief,
40
you just practice it until it becomes automatic.
41
That's how you actually get to change your psychology.
42
And so the mindset I invite you to start practicing each day is what I call the 2x, 3x mindset.
43
To double your income and your impact,
44
triple your investment in two core areas.
45
Number one, your personal mastery.
46
And number two, your professional capability.
47
And how do you do that?
48
Again, you do it through learning, study, and growth.
49
So I guess what I'm suggesting to you is you look at most of the population
50
and you commit yourself to what I call anti-majority behavior.
51
If you want to have a great life,
52
a soaring life, a creative life,
53
a productive life, an ultra prosperous life,
54
look at what most people do and do the opposite.
55
So most people, what they do is they love consuming as opposed to creating.
56
We live in a civilization of consumers.
57
Buy this, eat this, do this, consume this.
58
But the top 5%, those who play in the rare air of world class,
59
are not consumers, they're creators.
60
Secondly, most people, the 95%,
61
and this is no judgment,
62
just reporting, but they're pleasure seekers.
63
If you look at the true warriors of humanity,
64
you look at the true empire builders,
65
you look at the true titans who are constructing a better world,
66
they're less about pleasure seeking because they understand that growth comes through discomfort.
67
Willpower is built through voluntary acts of quote-unquote suffering.
68
I mean, to do hard work is to grow.
69
To push yourself on a project to places that frighten you is to expand your creative capabilities.
70
I hope I'm making sense for you here.
71
But pleasure seekers don't create monuments.
72
If you look at the Taj Mahal,
73
if you look at Piazza Navona in Rome,
74
if you look at the Great Wall of China,
75
if you look at the Mona Lisa created by da Vinci,
76
If you look at the Sistine Chapel created Michelangelo,
77
if you look at any great company,
78
an Apple under Steve Jobs,
79
for example, or it might have been Elon Musk's companies,
80
I don't know what companies most speak to you.
81
But if you look at any world-class company,
82
Under Armour comes to mind.
83
These companies took grit.
84
They took suffering.
85
They took relentlessness.
86
Any creative person has to face the arrows and slings of their critics.
87
So you get to world class through the doorway of discomfort.
88
And how do you build a strong inner core?
89
You do it by walking into the metaphorical hard winters of growth.
90
That's how you train.
91
You look at a great athlete.
92
It's the way they show up in the championship game is
93
simply how they showed up in the lonely light of the early hours at practice.
94
It wasn't easy.
95
I mean, I always think of Muhammad Ali.
96
He said, I didn't like any one of those early morning training sessions.
97
But I said to myself,
98
suffer now and spend the rest of your life as a champion.
99
The 95% are also pretty bored.
100
That's why they're addicted to distraction.
101
I mean, if you do not have a cause and a burning fire and a purpose for your life,
102
no matter what you do,
103
taxi driver, teacher, firefighter, carpenter,
104
baker, once you know a cause, then you...
105
I'll put it to you this way.
106
A compelling cause to donate the rest of your life to is the antidote to apathy.
107
But most people don't know.
108
You say, what do you want to stand for?
109
I don't know.
110
Good question.
111
You say,
112
what five things need to happen over the next 90 days for this to be the best quarter of your life?
113
I don't know.
114
You ask yourself, what are your top five values?
115
I don't know.
116
You ask yourself, ask most people,
117
what is your magnificent obsession
118
that gets you out of bed at five in the morning with fire in the belly and sparkle in your eyes?
119
And they say, I don't know.
120
See, most people do not spend the time to think.
121
They're busy being busy, caught up in the complexity of every day.
122
Divorce yourself from the majority.
123
Get involved in what I'm sharing with you is anti-majority behavior.
124
And here's the brain tattoo that I've been teaching at my events at like Personal Mastery Academy or my four-day flagship event,
125
the Titan Summit.
126
And the brain tattoo I teach to the people in the room for exponential productivity so they build their empires,
127
so they live world-class lives is simply this.
128
To have the results only 5% of the population have.
129
You've got to be willing to do the things that only 5% of the population are willing to do.
130
I'm going to repeat that again for you so you can reinforce it and cement it.
131
To have the results only 5% of the population have,
132
you've got to be willing to do what only 5% of the population are willing to do.
133
And it won't be easy.
134
You know, I read a quote this morning,
135
and it was something to the effect of any great piece of work
136
that the world has seen came as a result of huge amounts of effort in isolation for long periods of time.
137
And here was the great part of the quote, in estrangement from society.
138
Because when you live like this,
139
when you get up early,
140
when you go the extra mile,
141
when you have painstaking attention to detail.
142
When you love to learn,
143
study, and grow, remember LSG, learning, studying, and growing.
144
In this world where most people are,
145
they would rather spend time in entertainment than education.
146
They would rather spend time in leisure than learning.
147
When you live like this,
148
when you devote yourself to your craft,
149
when there's a sparkle in your eye to change the world and live your heroic potential,
150
you'll be called a freak, an oddball, a misfit.
151
But just remember this, and I say this with great love and respect.
152
If people don't misunderstand you,
153
you're not playing at your personal genius.
154
Okay, let me finish up with two key points.
155
Number one, when you honor your potential as a lifelong student,
156
When you live by this white belt mentality,
157
always thinking like a beginner,
158
always learning, growing, expanding, this is how you electrify your personal joy.
159
A lot of people ask me on my social platforms or at my live events,
160
Robin, how can I get more joy?
161
How can I get my spark back?
162
How can I live in the magic of life?
163
One of the ways is through the passageway into learning.
164
Learning fires your joy.
165
This morning I got up early as I do on most days and I got on the exercise bike,
166
but I also listened to an audiobook.
167
And there's just something alchemic that happens when you're moving your body,
168
but also fueling the student,
169
the hungry learner within you.
170
Second thing I want to leave you with, pain is potential unexpressed.
171
So if you want to lift your joy,
172
learn and grow, but also remember if you're spending all your time watching videos
173
and breaking news and chit-chatting and playing with your devices
174
and playing games versus getting in the pocket of world-class
175
and honoring your potential so you live a world-class life and do work that endures you the generations,
176
if you just waste your time and waste your talent,
177
if you betray the genius that longs to see the light of day,
178
well, what starts to happen is this psychic pain starts to well up inside you.
179
And more than anything else,
180
you start to disrespect yourself at a conscious and subconscious level.
181
This is very profound.
182
I want you to think about this later.
183
if you betray your potential,
184
you start to disrespect yourself.
185
And you start to fall into self-betrayal.
186
And that builds this huge subconscious reservoir of low self-worth.
187
And that's why you just sort of give up.
188
You have apathy.
189
There's no sparkle in your eye.
190
You don't walk towards your fears anymore.
191
You don't really care that much about your work and your love and your health and your life.
192
And you resign yourself to the cult of mediocrity
193
rather than playing in the place where you and I both know you belong to be,
194
in the rare air of mastery.
195
So I hope this episode has inspired you
196
and challenged you to stand up and step up your game as a learner so you live a world-class life.
197
And here's your homework.
198
As soon as you finish watching me,
199
I want you to share this episode,
200
this fiery, content-rich episode with three of your friends.
201
Why?
202
Because then you're going to help them.
203
We're going to spread this inspirational and tactical message.
204
And then I want you to share a conversation with those three friends.
205
So all four of you start talking about what I learned because the teacher learns the most.
206
And it's a great way to start refining and deepening your understanding of what I've shared in this episode.
207
Secondly, a lot of people say,
208
Robin, how do we get into the room for Personal Mastery Academy?
209
My two-day Personal Mastery event on exponential productivity to learn how the world-class producers think,
210
how to build your various empires of creativity and health and prosperity and happiness in your life.
211
It's really two days to live a world-class life.
212
And if you're interested, just go over to robinsharma.com or personalmasteryacademy.com and you'll find all the details.
213
And if that's of interest to you,
214
I'd love to help you.
215
Secondly, people ask, Robin, we've heard so much about your four-day famous event, the Titan Summit.
216
We've heard Richard Branson has been on your faculty and the co-founder of Apple,
217
Steve Wozniak, was on your faculty,
218
and people like Shaquille O'Neal.
219
And really, this is four days into epic productivity, the neuroscience of mastery.
220
How do you live past 100 at world-class health?
221
How do you build a great company?
222
And the final day is really about how do you make history with the rest of your life while you live beautifully.
223
And I put together a faculty of people.
224
It's not just me.
225
And this is really training and an event at the highest level.
226
People say this is one of the highest level live events available in the world.
227
We have billionaires in the room.
228
It sells out every year.
229
If you're interested in getting a ticket,
230
getting a seat, all you need to do is go to robinsharma.com
231
or you can go to the titansummit.com and all the details are going to be there.
232
And finally,
233
I'll see you on the social media where I love building relationships with the people who read my books
234
and the people who watch these episodes.
235
More than anything else, I want to remind you,
236
there are no extra people on the planet.
237
You might be at the top of the mountain right now.
238
You might be in the valley of darkness.
239
And I'm here to tell you,
240
number one, I've got your back and I'm with you on this journey.
241
And number two, just
242
because you're in a certain place now does not mean you
243
can't be where you want to be in a relatively short period of time.
244
Small daily improvements every day over time will get you to stunning results.
245
Make that first step, okay?
246
Lead where you're planted.
247
I send you lots of love.
248
All green lights.
249
I'll see you in the next episode.
250
Hi, this is Robin Sharma.
