You might hear people talking about the importance of self-esteem in kids.
7

8
Why does it matter so much?
9
How can we get more of it?
10
I'm glad you asked because we are going to tackle five ways to improve your self-esteem on this episode of Rocket Kids.
11
I'm Elvis and let's get this started.
12
Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself or the opinion you have of yourself.
13
So yeah, if we have positive self-esteem, we feel good about ourselves and what we are capable of.
14
Who doesn't want to feel good about themselves or think they can do great things?
15
When we are confident and secure about who we are, we're more likely to take on new challenges and learn from our mistakes.
16
We're also more likely to stand up for ourselves and ask for help when we need it.
17
We can develop positive self-esteem by working towards a goal and seeing that hard work pays off over time.
18
Accomplishing things shows us that we have what it takes to face new challenges.
19
Our success makes us feel good about ourselves and learn that it's even okay to fail.
20
All of these are great things and now you want to know how to get some of that positive self-esteem?
21
Well here are five ways to do just that.
22
Stop the negative thoughts.
23
Look, we all have times when we feel a bit low or find it hard to believe in ourselves, especially when things don't go the way that we had hoped.
24
When we start thinking we aren't good enough to do that, not clever enough, don't have any friends, you start to see that these things are just not true.
25
You do have friends.
26
You were clever enough to do that last level and why can't you be clever enough for this one?
27
Remember, we are what we think we are.
28
So find the positive about yourself and realize that you are more than just what you think you are.
29
Be with positive people.
30
They say that we're the sum of the five people we spend the most time with.
31
We hang around positive people then we tend to have a more positive mindset
32
and if we hang around those that complain all the time
33
or may constantly be putting down you
34
and others then yeah we're not going to feel so good about ourselves and the world around us.
35
Keep the people close that make you feel good, encourage you, and make you want to do better.
36
And don't be afraid to get rid of the others.
37
Know your strengths.
38
We all have things that we are better at than others.
39
Maybe you are really good at drawing, maybe you play a mean violin, or you're really, really good at basketball.
40
Whatever it is, do more of that.
41
Sign up for a drawing contest, join the advanced orchestra, get involved with that summer basketball league.
42
When we do more of what we love, we feel better about ourselves and our accomplishments.
43
Find those things that you love and do more of them, and always work to be better at it.
44
Get up and get moving.
45
Exercise is a great way to increase those feel-good juices that run through our body.
46
Staying healthy, eating right, and getting in that exercise will get our minds moving in a positive direction.
47
Studies actually show that exercise can reduce anxiety, depression, and negative thoughts.
48
All great reasons to get up and get moving.
49
We can set goals too, and then work to accomplish them, like beating our time in the 100 meter dash or adding time to our daily walk.
50
When we see ourselves improving, our self esteem goes up.
51
Take on challenges.
52
Most of the time people with low self esteem will avoid taking on new challenges
53
because they don't think they can do it.
54
It doesn't mean you have to go climb Mount Everest
55
or jump right into something that will be so hard that you just can't do it.
56
Start small with new things.
57
Learn them and get better.
58
Seeing yourself improve at something will for sure improve your self-esteem.
59
Remember, it doesn't have to be something physical you take on.
60
Maybe you want to challenge yourself to ask for help
61
when you need it or to give more of your time to those in need.
62
Whatever you challenge yourself to, just be sure that you're doing it for you.
63
The bottom line is improving self-esteem requires a bit of work as it involves developing and maintaining healthier emotional habits.
64
We will all feel low, but work hard to make sure those feelings don't last.
65
Stop with the negative thoughts, be with positive people, know your strengths, get moving, and take on new challenges.
66
Get your mind moving in the right direction every day, and remember that self-esteem is built over time, not overnight.
67
That's that, and this is Rocket Kids, I'm Elvis, and until next time, always remember to be your best self because it's the only way to be.
