A lot of people seem to think that the most certain way to build their job security is to make themselves indispensable.
7
But indispensability isn't always a good thing.
8
It comes in two distinct flavours.
9
each of which are completely different.
10
The first form of indispensability which is generally desirable,
11
is when you're seen as someone who consistently creates extraordinary value for your company.
12
Now in this case, your boss might describe you in talent management meetings as indispensable.
13
But the more common and much less desirable form of perceived indispensability
14
is when you have critical knowledge that poses a risk to the company if you were to leave.
15
Some people use knowledge hoarding as a tactic to increase their job security.
16
They figure the company couldn't afford to lose their unique intellectual property.
17
But the reality is, If you don't share your knowledge, you're putting a flashing neon sign over the top of your head that says,
18
I am a risk to the ongoing performance of my team.
19
If, God forbid, you were ever hit by a bus, The team is screwed.
20
at least in the short term, because no one else can do your job.
21
Even though it may not be the preferred outcome, every company knows that in the end, No one is indispensable.
22
I never was no one who ever worked for me was.
23
And sure, it might really hurt when a key individual leaves, but you get over it and you move on.
24
Thank you.
25
Large corporations are unbelievably resilient to stuff -ups.
26
So even when people who may have been considered indispensable leave, The company just goes on.
27
Maybe not as fast.
28
Maybe not as well.
29
Maybe leaving a bunch of upside on the table, but more often than not the company survives Just fine.
30
If you ever find yourself thinking, How could the company do without me?
31
Well, trust me, they'll work it out.
32
I let a number of senior people go during my executive career precisely because they were fixated on making themselves indispensable.
33
I knew that if they were choosing not to share their knowledge, they would build completely the wrong culture into their team.
34
High performance cultures don't subscribe to the knowledge is power theory.
35
If you want to improve your job security, Don't try to make yourself indispensable.
36
Instead, Make yourself...
37
redundant, Now, I know this sounds counterintuitive, but this is what the best leaders do, the ones whose teams achieve genuine high performance.
38
They are absolutely relentless in their quest to build capability.
39
They want to grow as many ready -now successes below them as they possibly can.
40
Now, if you focus on this, it'll open the door for you to become a trusted advisor.
41
Someone who your bosses look at and say, I just wish we had more people like Greg.
42
Your goal should be to build your team's capability so that it functions brilliantly whether you're there or not.
43
If you do that, your bosses will be crawling all over themselves to promote you
44
so that you can have an even greater impact on the business.

Guida passo passo per lo shadow speech

Per migliorare la pronuncia inglese con questo video, segui questi passaggi: 1. Ascolta il video una volta per capire il contesto. 2. Ripeti frasi brevi (es. "Welcome to Moments with Marty") immediatamente dopo il relatore, cercando di imitare l'intonazione e il ritmo. 3. Focus su espressioni come "no bullshit leadership" – nota come "bullshit" è pronunciato con un tono informale. 4.
