A self-corrupting file format that automatically destroys itself permanently after being open just dropped, and the ramifications are horrifying.

Someone on Reddit shared this demonstration of what they're calling DecayFMT,

a file format that gets a tiny bit more corrupted every time it gets open with no foreseeable way to fix it.

It'll slowly randomize the pixels on an image file,

and text gets more and more illegible over time and people immediately began worrying about game publishers incorporating this into their distributions.

The thing is, at least how it stands right now, making a copy of the fresh file completely negates the whole planned obsolescence angle

so they can't properly put it into video games in its current format.
