Now it's time to do some shadowing.
21
So there are a number of different techniques that you can use and let me share four of them with you here.
22
The first technique is that you listen, you read, you pause and then you repeat.
23
The second technique, you don't read, you only listen, pause and repeat.
24
The third technique is you read it and you try and repeat at exactly the same time as me.
25
And then the fourth one is that you don't read
26
but you listen and you try and repeat at the same time as me.
27
Number four is quite tricky but it is doable.
28
So choose your favourite shadowing technique and we will begin with the first tricky combination.

De spreker gebruikt 8 samentrekkingen en verkorte vormen, zoals don't, I'm, you're.

  • De “th”-klanken: loathe /ˈloʊð/, beth /bɛθ/, warmth /wɔɹmθ/, thief /ˈθiːf/, tooth /tuθ/
  • Lange woorden — let op de klemtoon: combinations /kɑmbɪˈneɪʃənz/, availability /əˌveɪ.ləˈbɪl.ɪ.ti/, communicate /kəˈmjuːnɪkeɪt/

Klanken die Nederlandstaligen lastig vinden:

  • Stemhebbende eindmedeklinker — /b/, /d/, /g/, /z/, /v/ niet verscherpen: memorize /ˈmɛm.əˌɹaɪ̯z/, humid /ˈhjuːmɪd/, pause /pɔːz/, freeze /ˈfɹiːz/, nerve /nɝv/
  • /æ/ — opener dan de Nederlandse “e”: flatmate /ˈflætmeɪt/, grammar /ˈɡɹæm.ə(ɹ)/
  • /w/ — met ronde lippen: warmth /wɔɹmθ/, homework /ˈhoʊmˌwɝk/

Zo oefen je met deze video
